I think most children become aware of the idea of God because of their parents or other elders....that is, they know that there is a concept of God. As a child, I went to church regularly because my family did. My religious consciousness started developing somewhere during my teens, and now I go to church because I want to, not because my society demands it.

For me, 'religious consciousness' or actually 'spiritual' consciousness is a personal thing that differs from person to person. I think of it as something that happens when a person develops belief in God on their own and not because that's what society tells them. There isn't any correct age, it can happen any time. And I guess there are some people who live their whole lives without ever achieving it.
