On the way to drop off my son, 15 yrs, at his friends house, a big truck was on my tail. I was upset because they had their brights on, and were following way too close. It was icy, and I was going approx 40mph. When I got to the turn, I put on my left blinker, and he was right around me within inches, as he went around, I beeped my horn. With that, I saw it was a fire chiefs truck. Well, he turned around and started to follow me. I pulled over, and he pulled next to me and started screaming at me saying..."The chiefs son needs to go to the hospital...he was in front of you" I said I said I was scared you were following way too close, and if you were in a hurry why didn't you put on your lights, I would have let you pass. In the mean time, my son, protecting his mom, got out of the car and said why are you f***ing with my Mom? The guy said get your son...ah that's it, I am calling for a car. then he pulled up in front of me, and walked towards my car screaming. then he left.

We did not know he was a fire chief, so when my son, who was going to his friends to confront him on being with his girl, reacted, as if to protect me. I was so upset, and when the fire chief finally walked away while screaming at me, looked at my plate. I felt like saying a lot to him, like if it was so important to make it to the hospital, then why did you have to go and turn around, and then waste precious time? Just to be right? Just to prove your masulinity? I called the fire dept, non emergency number, but no one answered. Question: Should I leave it alone? Should I worry about reprocussions? I know my son was wrong, but it was all so upsetting. He got right back in the car when I told him to, but this guy was on some power trip...Any thoughts would be appreciated! When I beeped at him, I had no clue who he was..

A fire chief is NOT the highest in a fire station, there is others including the mayor of the city that are higher, and most chiefs are voted on (volunteers), or are hired on (paid, in which there is a commissioner). If it were me I would not fret, he was in the wrong. He was driving in a non-emergency fashion but attempting to drive emergency (you know what I mean, no lights, siren) he was doing the wrong too, aka tailgating, maybe speeding, he would be in just as much wrong as you. If he does do something it could be to go and have your son charged with disorderly conduct, but I do not see it going farther than that. I think nothing will happen of the incident personally.

I'm sorry, what's the question?
Oh, alright. Well, the Fire Chief is pretty much as high up as you are going to get at the fire station. I would take it upon myself to report it to the Police Chief. See what your options are.

His behavior was unprofessional and uncalled for. I'd let his boss know how he acted just in case something comes up at a later time even if it wasn't in the form of an official complaint.

What's the question? If it's "what should you do", report him to his superiors.
