My Mother-In-Law's Chihuahua just had puppies and a few of them have red fur. But I can't seem to find any information on the internet. The mother and father are not registered AKC but were sold as pure breads.

Yes. Chihuahuas have a huge array of colors that are acceptable by show standards, and any dog is full blooded as long as both parents are full blooded. You also do not necessarily have to have papers to have a full blooded dog. The registry is just so you can trace a dogs lineage. You can get full blooded dogs at the pounds and rescues that usually do not have papers.

I believe red is an acceptable color....Are both the mom and dad registered? Like, with AKC? Hope so!

ETA:

If the mom and dad are not registered, but were sold as pure bred dogs, your in-laws were scammed! And not to mention how wrong it is to have let them breed! They weren't registered for a reason....there is a problem!! *sigh* more puppies going to the pound.

Color doesn't mean they aren't pure. Chihuahuas can be any color, solid, marked or splashed. I even have a red and white myself.

The color does not matter, they are not considered pure-bred because they are not AKC registered.

Sorry your in-laws got scammed.
