What do you think of Darlington - I'm thinking of moving for work but don't know anything about Darlington/ County Durham...?

i used to live 15 miles away from Darlington, and i worked for Orange customer services, who have their main call centre offices on the outskirts of Darlington..... for me, it was one of those places that i didn't mind visiting, but i wouldn't have chose to live there. there are some nice areas, and the town centre is quite nice, but there are also a lot of rough areas. (mostly around the town centre, some of the new estates on the outskirts are nice). the town where i used to live is called Northallerton, and is only a 20 min drive away from Darlington. it's a nice market town, and it's not got any major problem areas. even the estates that are considered to be the 'rough' areas of Northallerton are still pretty nice ! if u go another 8 miles or so away from Northallerton, there's also another nice town called Thirsk. it's a bit bigger, and in my opinion it's not quite as nice as Northallerton, but it's still nicer than Darlington. and there's also a lot of villages around the Thirsk / Northallerton area. one village u may want to consider is called Croft on Tees. it's a fairly large village half way between Northallerton and Darlington, and it's a really pretty place with a river running through the middle of it. if u have any more questions, feel free to leave me an IM.

Darlington is OK. It has lots of history and is surrounded by some beautiful countryside. The shopping isn't too good, however, and the football team is rubbish. Nightlife also a bit pants.

Hope this helps!

It's a bit like Milton Keynes - you know where it is but you don't really care or want to go there! Bit of a dump to be perfectly honest - I'm sure there are some nice areas - but I couldn't find them!
