She's a year old! Last week she scraped herself on her back near her head. She was running too fast! I'm putting ointment on it and there is no infection. I also made a little soft neckbrace for her so she can't scratch because it itches! During the day, it heals but at night when I'm asleep, she gets it off and scratches herself so it doesn't heel properly! Please don't tell me to take her to the vet because everytime she goes she gets stressed and gets an upper respiratory infection! The last time, it was so bad, she almost died! I don't want her to get sick again. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! Maybe, if there is a vet tech around?? What can I do during the night?? Please help!!

If I put a cone on her, she will still be able to scratch it with her legs from behind!!

we had to have our kitten in a plastic cone for two weeks when she kept ripping out her stitches from her spay. Maybe you could put a cone on her, just at night, to keep her from messing with the cut. I think they sell them at pet supply stores (petsmart, petco, etc) If not, maybe you could call your vet and explain the situation and they could provide you with one you can put on her yourself. It will annoy her a ton, but at least the cut will heal up.

*edit, sorry, I guess I read your question too fast. I read it as 'on the back of her head' not on her back near her head. Would it be possible to get a old t-shirt or a puppy t-shirt tied tight enough that she wouldn't be able to get it off? Our vet sugggested that if our cat was able to get the cone off.*

As a previous vet tech, it sounds like you have done all you can do, I suggest you take her to the vet for anitbiotics and a plastic cone collar to keep her from messing with the wound.
