I can't help thinking the Pope could do a lot to alleviate poverty and suffering in places like Brazil if he encouraged people to use contraception and plan their families. One "Street Child" is one too many! It breaks my heart to see children suffer like that!
This sort of attitude is the reason my mother "lapsed" as a Catholic.

The Catholic church has for many hundreds of years grown rich by feeding religious rubbish to poor and suffering people throughout the world.
It should encourage contraception but of course it wont.

The Catholic Church does not condone poverty or suffering. She teaches what she believes is the Will of God.
The Catholic Church along with the rest of the Judeo-Christian religions has taught for thousands of years that it is God's will that:
+ Single people should be celibate.
+ Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
+ Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.
The Will of God is not negotiable.
With love in Christ.

The only way the Catholic Church would ever encourage contraception is if it sold branded condoms to help it generate yet MORE cash....I can see it now.....
Stick a Pope bag on your tool
And we'll earn money you little fool
(Mind you, they'd still probably put bloody pinholes in 'em just so that more catholics could be generated.....after all, would you take a faulty one back to the church?

Well is the catholic church willing to financially support children who came from unplanned pregnancies if the parents can't afford to? they can't have it both ways. Most people are financially unable to support large families these days with the cost of living being so high so the church can't realistically expect people not to use contraception and therfore should move with the times & re-think the issue.

I don't know why it opposes contraception. Personally, I see no problem with "limiting" the number of children one has, as long as one does not sterlize oneself. Hopefully, in the future, they will adapt their policies to be a bit more flexible.

They should. They won't though. It would cut the flow of future catholics. They need all they can get to dominate. Gays contribute no future members either.
