the party is this 3/3/07 and to date no one has called. I'm sending out a note stating the following:
As you know birthday parties need planning.
It is important to RSVP. If you plan on your
Child attending Bridget’s party on Saturday,
March 3, 2007 please call and verify whether
Or not your child is attending. . I have
Voicemail if there is not an answer, please
Leave a message. If there is not a call I will
Assume that your child does not plan on
Attending.
My mother thinks this is being pushy. I feel it is just prudent planning. It's a roller skating party and I need to know how many to expect since I have to pay extra for anyone over the package number. Who's right?

Well, does sound a bit pushy to me, however, having said that, you don't sound like a fly by the seat of your pants type of gal ??? No worries, I'm exactly the same as you and only wish I thought of doing just exactly the same thing the last time one of my children had a party !! Most of the time you're lucky if people respond and half the time they leave it to the last day !! The best ones are the ones that don't respond at all and then turn up at the party without a single word of apology !! I reckon you go girl, stuff all those rude ignorant mothers who have no manners, just common etiquette if you ask me !!
PEACE

I agree that your note doesn't sound very friendly but still realize that you do need an exact number for the rink. It's hard to tell in writing someone's tone. I know you don't mean to sound pushy but people can perceive it that way and end up ignoring your invitation all together which would be sad for your little girl. I would just call each parent on the guest list and ask if their child is coming and explain that it is the skating rink that needs a head count and that the rink needs a response by a certain date. This makes it look like the rink is being the pushy one not you. If people show up without confirmation, then you just say that the rink already set up for so many. You might then suggest they check with the skating people. So basically, you're putting this all on the parents and the skating rink, not you.

The follow up note sounds a bit tacky. Last year I did a party for my son at Chucke Cheese and was amazed that people did not RSVP until only two and three days before the party and two even only a couple of hours prior. I think it is on a low priority and need to see if it will fit into there schedule.

i vote for u, i dont think its being pushy, u need to know how many kids are coming to make plans, I've done the same thing in the past, especially when it was for a skating party..it is a package deal and u need to know as well as the skating place so they can set up the correct number of kids coming

At this stage, I suggest you telephone the guest list, ask them if they plan on attending as you need to complete the booking with the rink. You will be given a yes or no.
No need to go into lengthy details as outlined in your note it also didn't sound v. friendly.

If it wasn't for the child I wouldn't even have bothered to remind those people, who wants to have people in the house who are not able to follow basic courtesy rules.
