In most departments, if not all, you have to be a member of the department first. Academy, field training, probation, then assignment. Once in the department, talk to Human Resources Division about applying for ESU/SWAT. Most SWAT teams will not take just anybody. They have a minimum standard above the average police officer. You may have to take a PT or agiility test, along with weapons quals. Higher PT scores, weapons qualifications, plus interview to get in are the norm to get in

Talk to the recruiting command of the NYCPD. If you are already a meber of the dept, talk to your supervisor.
