I cage my dogs all day, they pee out side. But when I check the rug the is urine on it, Don't know from which dog or both. I am very frustrated. I don't want to have to cage them 24 hours.
Any suggestions?

What the dogs more carefully. Take them out at the first sign of having to go. If you see a dog urinating and the dog doesn't realize they are doing it,have your vet check for urinary tract infection. You'll also need to thoroughly clean and remove all scent traces of urine from your carpet so the dog doesn't think it's "their" spot to go on.

I had a similar problem with my dogs at first as well. What i used to help cure them of this was every time they pee on the carpet, or anywhere they shouldn't, I would spray that spot with undiluted white vinegar from a spray bottle, wipe the spot as clean as I can, and then re-spray the spot with the vinegar and just leave it there (do not wipe it off). The vinegar is a smell the dogs cant stand (they then avoid that spot) and the vinegar also removes the smell of urine completely without damaging the carpet (you might want to try it on a small spot hard to notice first just to be sure of no colour changes). And perhaps you might need to take the dogs outside a little more frequently before you leave them for the day. Also, do you leave them water during the day? If so you will want to remove that as well, at least until you have stopped the accidents from occurring. Good luck!

First you don't need them cages 24/7, infact that's harmful to the dog. When they are out of the cage restrict them to an area of the house you can keep an eye on them so if there is an accident you can say a sharp no or make a loud noise as the dog is IN THE ACT to give them the idea that inside is not a good place for that. When you do this drop what you're doing and take the guilty pup immediately outside to finish and praise them for going outside. Then with as little fanfare as possible clean and deodorize the spot so no one will smell it later and want to repeat the event. If you don't catch them in the act, don't bother correcting them, they're not going to associate the spot on the carpet with you being mad so save your breath. Have a set schedule they go out on, every hour/every few hours, whatever works... in the begining I'd suggest every 2 hours minimum so you get the idea of how often they go and then slowing increase the amount of time between outings. When they go outside praise them and give treats if you're so inclined (my dogs will do anything for treats) always going to the same spot in the yard so they understand THAT is the place they should go to relieve themselves. Depending on the dog it may take some time but with some consistency on your part it is possible.

I've noticed that if I take my dog for a 15-30 minute walk before I let him in the house he doesn't try to mark everything inside. If I feed him it takes about 15 minutes before he'll poop. Expecting him to mess up is the other key. When he does a sharp, "NO!, OUTSIDE!" I only use the kennel for him to sleep in and for special doggy time outs. I have a dachshund. My vet told me that if I ever get him potty trained I've really done something. My dog is 3/4 of the way there...

Take it out 10 minutes after you feed it. Tie it up where you like to go it potty and wait for it to do its thing. Do this several times and your dog will eventually get used to going there whenever it needs to pee. Another thing, you better scrub your carpet and drop a few vinegar to it so that the urine's odor will be completely gone and your dog won't be able to smell it anymore. Because if it does, it will think that the carpet's the right place to pee.

Goodluck housebreaking! :)

ok what first of all do you let then inside and peeing on a rug inside .if yes it could be a mark of sprite saying you have had me locked up all day i teach you.you need to find the one doing and put back out side for awhile and then let him it may help or he just may keep doing .you could remove the rug for awhile and see if the dog marks some where else.

Seems like your dogs have claimed your rug as their toilet. Even if you wash it they will still pee on it because the "smell" is embedded on the rug. Take your dogs outside after feeding it so they are not tempted to pee on your rug.

try exercising them, praising when they pee outside & being stern when they do it on your rug - they know the diference!
