The reason the nitrous oxide is not available at my dental surgery is because I live in Scotland, and you have to be referred to a hospital in order to have a general anaesthetic here - and she says she won't refer me because im not a child (im 26) I know my fear is irrational, and I do think I need to address the anxiety problem!!!! I don't know if I can resolve my fear issues by next week though!!!

The topical anaesthetics work very well, but you real problem is unresolved anxiety. Your oral surgeon is remiss in not having nitrous oxide gas readily available; I'd find a different oral surgeon.
You might also speak to your regular physician about being pre-medicated for this procedure. It is often done and seldom has any serious side effects. As for the blood draw -just don't watch. I've drawn blood from hundreds and hundreds of people over the years, including people with fears just like yours. It's never nearly as traumatic as you anticipate. But don't feel alone - even though I was usually the guy with the needle - I absolutely DETEST having my own blood drawn!
Seriously, consider going to a different oral surgeon. Yours is certainly not one I'd go to, no matter how good he is otherwise. Nitrous oxide is a very, very reasonable tool in any dentist's or oral surgeon's office and there's no good reason for it to be absent. After all, HE is not the one paying for it!

The anaesthetic gel they rub in your gums before they inject at the dentists works a treat. I was really worried when I had to have a filling a while back but I barely felt the needle go in. I am unable to answer the second part of question because I did not even know you can get a similar gel for your skin. Good Luck, Hope all goes well`!!

The one the dentists use is actually much more effective than the one we use on people's arms. In both cases, the local anaesthetic is quite good at relieving the pain from the actual needle injection.

However, neither form is any good at relieving anxiety.

You'll need to do that bit by yourself, because an injection to relieve your anxiety requires ... you guessed it, a needle :-)

When you go for a tattoo they say put this cream on to numb your part of body that is getting tattoo and it dose work. This is the same as having a needle at hospital. The anaesthetic dose work it mite scratch going in but it dose numb your mouth

Yes the topical cream works and you can get various ones from chemist, the application time varies from product to product from 20 mins before injection to one hour before having the injection. The injection the dentist gives you absolutely does not hurt, I had it and didn't even realise they had done it, the secret is not to look. Good luck.

suck it up I am sure they needle won't be any bigger than a 25 guage and when I start IVs I like to start with an 18 (the smaller the number the bigger the needle) so it won't be any worse than a bee sting more than likely it will be less painful than that.
