I've been on this website for a while and I've chosen to discuss items in the religion department. And out of ten answers to a random question I've seen four people saying God is great and that you should let him/her into your heart, two people throwing Bible quotations around, three atheïsts with a relatively bitter response to all of this and maybe one honest answer if not zero.

Now, I'm not saying I give the best answers (I'm one of those bitter atheïsts), but people seem to repeat the same thing over and over again like a broken record. It's true because the Bible says so - the Bible is a book - evolution is not necessarily true - it has been proven - so has the Bible - no it hasn't - yes it has - etcetera. It's all child's bickering and I'm growing weary. And the worst of all is, we're not getting anywhere. The best answers are voted by asker and what the asker religiously agrees with turns out to be the best answer. All of this doesn't change anything. Anyone else think so?

This is exactly what I mean. This is not a battle, and there is no winner here, as much as there is no winner in real life. People are tripping over eachother to tell me that I should go do something else then if I have nothing better to do. I'm just getting yelled at by lots of aggressive fanatics that want me gone. What do you think this board is? A friggin' battlefield? Wake up! You're all still behind your computers, still in your room, still arguing over nothing changing nothing. Everyone is getting angry at eachother and noone is giving away a foothold because noone else does. Do me a favor and provide some valid arguments why this bickering should continue.

People come here to ask serious questions? THESE QUESTIONS ARE NOT SERIOUS BECAUSE RELIGION IS RELATIVE! THERE IS NO SERIOUS ANSWER BECAUSE NOTHING CAN BE PROVEN AND EVER WILL BE PROVEN! THIS IS A NONDISCUSSION! WHY ARE WE ALL WASTING SO MUCH TIME SCREAMING AT EACHOTHER, INSULTING PEOPLE, RELATIVIZING EACHOTHER'S SACRED BELIEFS WITH NO RESULT? WE'RE WASTING TIME, WE ALL ARE BECAUSE WE'RE NOT HELPING EACHOTHER, WE'RE JUST CONSTANTLY SPAWNING THE SAME MESSAGE OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITHOUT BEING CONSTRUCTIVE! AND IF IT TAKES CAPITOL LETTERS OR CURSEWORDS TO MAKE A DENT IN THE WALL OF IGNORANCE THAN THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES AND I'M MORE THAN WILLING TO FINALLY KNOCK EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF SENSE INTO ALL OF YOU INCLUDING MYSELF! AND IF IT MAKES SO MANY PEOPLE SO HAPPY, I'LL LEAVE. GO ON, BICKER ABOUT NOTHING, DOING NOTHING, ACCOMPLISHING NOTHING. I'M GOING TO DO SOMETHING WITH MY LIFE AND YOU CAN ALL PRETEND TO BE FRIGGIN' JESUS FOR ALL I CARE. SCREW THE LOT OF YOU!

Until religion takes its place where it belongs- in a philosophical ambiente- these arguments will persist.
The blind faith will argue that the Earth is flat - as they did with Columbus- if it means they can keep getting paid to philosophise and will not accept science until science can prove God's existence. So far, they have proven everything else except that! So the angrier they'll get.
But knowledge is a tool, some like to share it, others are afraid to use it, while others try breaking another's tool. If there were less tools (keep following the metaphor), we wouldn't need investigators, scientists, philosophers, nor documentary makers. All many people are trying to do here is share their tool; their knowledge, to make other's lives less hateful and vengeful. I for one was a true believer who found the lies and turned to atheism, but life has shown me "coincidences" that cannot be explained by science, therefore I've changed tools quite frequently. And I think they all do their jobs- the leaders are the only ones in the wrong for provoking hate and intolerance.
I did my own pick'n'choose of the most viable 'theories' of each faith, philosophy and fact and have come to an understanding of life: we are all different, constantly changing, and that which you believe won't work for everyone. We all have to be like a bamboo tree and bend with the times- standing firmly rooted to your credence like an oak may cause you to fall when strong winds come blowing.
And the winds have started to blow!

Hello Richard my friend,.. or should i say.. Mr Dawkins,

It appears that this entire concept of 'God' has you hooked, you have found it such a fascinating subject, and your passion for it impresses me, but really, it has become a quest for you, a journey, and your not sure where it may lead you...

"Tiresome" ? well yes it can be,
full of confusion? absolutely!
Worth while?... of coarse!

The search for significance and meaning of life is a very interesting one indeed, and deserves a life time of searching, for the potential payoff is enormous, Ultimate understanding.

Allow me to quote from the many times quoted 'C.S Lewis'
And i will keep the letters 'lower case', but let this not effect the emphasis of what he is articulating...

It is recommended to read his quotes slowly to capture his points
(works for me anyway, as i'm not the brightest of persons)

"All your life an unattainable ecstasy has hovered just beyond the grasp of your consciousness. The day is coming when you will wake to find, beyond all hope, you have attained it, or else, that it was within your reach and you have lost it forever"

and continuing...

"...The sense that in this universe we are treated as strangers, the longing to be acknowledged, to meet with some response, to bridge some chasm that yawns between us and reality, is part of our inconsolable secret... Our lifelong nostalgia, our longing to be reunited with something in the universe from which we feel cut off, to be on the inside of some door which we have always seen from the outside, is no mere neurotic fantasy, but the truest index of our real situation."

Let it settle...

And to continue once more...

"If the universe is not governed by an absolute moral goodness, then all our efforts are in the long run are hopeless. But if it is, then we are making ourselves enemies to that goodness every day, and we are not in the least likely to do any better tomorrow, and so our case is hopeless again. we cannot do without it and we cannot do with it.
God is the only comfort, He is also the supreme terror: the thing we most need and the thing we most want to hide from. He is our only possible ally, and yet we have made ourselves his enemies. Some people talk as if meeting the gaze of absolute goodness would be fun. They need to think again. They are still only playing with religion."

Quoting text to you, is not what i really like to do, but i feel C.S Lewis may address a similar grain to which you mentioned.

So has anything changed? time will tell, is this Chatter worth it all?, perhaps, providing you can filter out all the noise that is there intentionally to distract you from what your really looking for.

Yes there are many hypocrites, and false people living religion.
but "religion is just the dead repetition of what was once spiritually vital". . . What you search for is relationship,,,

Now the battle between your mind and your heart will increase in your life, but "let my peace be with you, for i have overcome the world" Jesus Christ,

(-: Peace and truth be with you Richard.

I don't disagree with you, but if you find it a waste of time, why do you come? Hopefully, people of faith come here to try to answer questions that ask legitimate, genuine, sincere questions about faith. Why people who hate faith come here to post hostile or obscene questions is beyond me. It's the intellectual equivalent of dialing random phone numbers and hanging up, a juvenile act.

As for redundant answers, the questions are redundant too. Same old Q, same old A. That should not surprise anybody.

so you think an honest answer would not use the word "God", would not quote from the Bible and would not be people's genuine opinons.....

hmmmm...

and you say the worst of all is that "we're not getting anywhere". Where do you want us to go, friend? to your land of "bitter atheism"?? yikes!!

no thanks

god bless

Sort-of. I give it a shot anyway, though. Sometimes you do get people that are interested in exploring religion together with history and science, and I've gotten some very good answers.

in a sense i agree, all this relgious babble is getting everyone nowhere.
we are all God's children,we need to learn to get along, and stop arguing, and criticizing each other.
God doesn't like it,either.
The Devil he loves it,he is the author of confusion and babbel
