The minimum term to enlist in the US Army is 2 years. Having said that, I feel it necessary to quantify the statement.
First, it's damn near impossible to get a job that has that enlistment option. While I was recruiting, I saw two (2) people get it. When I enlisted (20 years ago), I got it, but... The normal, least amount of time is 3 years.
Second, you will have an 8 year commitment to the service. This is regardless of which branch you choose. IF you get the 2 years, then you will have 6 years in the Inactive Ready Reserves (IRR).

8 years. ALL contracts incur an 8 year obligation. As little as 15 months of that can be Active duty, however, with the remainder being divided up into Reserves or Individiual ready Reserve.
MOST contracts are for 4 years Active, though. howlong an AD commitment youincur will depend on the job you get. ones that require a lot oftraining may incure a 6 year commitement.

Active Duty is similar to working at a full-time civilian job. There are hours when, as a Soldier, you will be training or performing your job, and then there are off-hours when you can do what you like. For an Active Duty Soldier, your length of service can range from two to six years. Typical deployments are 12 months in length, and after six months, Soldiers are usually eligible for a two-week Rest & Relaxation (R&R) leave. The exact length of deployment depends on each unit’s specific mission.
