if I'm honest i think 9months is a bit young for the child to be in a bed,but if that's what she feels then it is her choice.you can put your child into a bed when he/she is ready..also when u feel it is safe and good to do so..there is no point getting a bed if that child has no sense of danger to falling off the end..i know they can still fall off whatever age,but i mean they do not hang off the side of the bed and not know it will make them fall.
my son has been in a child's bed since he was 15months old (now nearly 18months).he is much happier now than he was in a cot.but before this age he was sooo not ready..he was always trying to throw himself off then end of the bed not realising how much it can hurt him,now he knows how to get on and off beds/furniture without falling, and wont go near the edge if he doesn't feel safe.
on the other hand i have one friend that has only just put hers in one and she is 2 years old and my other friends baby is still in a cot at 2.5.. it really does depend when you want to put them in a bed,and if the child and u are happy to stay in a cot then why not!
your right cots are alot stronger these days as some even turn into cotbeds!

My daughter is 20 months old and in a cot bed - it's quite big and you can take the rails off later and it looks like a "normal" bed. She also wriggles around a lot in bed and I know the minute we take the railings off she will fall out every 10 minutes through the night! I don't think there is anything wrong with it, at least this gives her a few more months to settle down at night and understand a bit more that she shouldn't just wake up and roam the house. When we bought the cot bed we were advised they can go in them until they are 4/5 years old and 2/3 when it is a cot.

My now seven year old has been in a normal single bed since he was about 13 months old(with a bedguard at first obviously) and my daughter, who is now 19 months old has been in a bed since she was 13 months old too (she still has a bedguard).
I put them in once they were confident walkers and have a stairgate over the door so that they can't escape during the night. I have never had any problems with either of them and I will be doing much the same thing when my now 8 month old starts to walk confidently.
I have friends who left the 'big bed' until a lot later and found that they had issues as regards tantrums and getting out of bed to play. I have never had any such issues-at 12/13 months they just accept that it's their bed and get on with it-much easier all round, and they have more space( both of mine tended to sleep sideways and so limbs were hanging out of the cot's bars).
I guess that everyone will parent their own way, and I have to agree that 9 months seems a little young to be in a normal bed-but then you may think that I'm insane putting them in at 12/13 months!
I'm British by the way-just so you can tell who's doing what where.

My son is just 12 months and there is no way on this earth I would put him in a bed. He can't stay still for long enough. I check on him a couple of times during an evening and he is in a different place every time. He does not sleep with his head at one end all the time, he changes every two minutes. I can't even let him have blankets (he has a fleecy sleep suit over his pyjamas to keep him warm before other people get on their high horses!!) He kept wriggling around so much he would get trapper or I would find him with his head under the blankets. he would just fall out of a bed now, not even a guard would keep him in. Besides, he can't get out when he wakes during the night or in the early hours. Every now and then he will wake up, but l leave him and after 10-15 minutes he goes back off. If he was in a bed he would be out and in his toy box!!

I replied to your original question saying my daughter was in a bed at 15 months and i live in UK.
I have a safety gate on her room and everything in her room is safe if she did happen to get up and not hear her.
My daughter is now 2.5 and it just seems impossible that someone could also have a daughter of that age and have her in a cot!!!!!
I also have a 13 month old daughter and in the next 2 months she will be going into a bed.

I agree with you on the roaming around at night part. That was always my biggest fear. I say there is no rush to move your child to a larger bed, a crib or "cot" is perfectly fine as long as she isn't climbing out and it's large enough. I guess all parents are different. I moved mine into toddler beds at about age 2 and there were times I wish I had waited a bit longer.

is the baby in a toddler bed or a regular bed, a toddler bed has rails on it, so I wouldnt worry that much but if just in a regular bed I would because it could fall out and get hurt. My daughter started sleeping in a toddler bed when she was 15 months old, but it all depends on the child, but I think 9 months is too young.

i would never put a 9 months old child in a bed as this isn't safe they could fall out and seriously hurt themselves, my daughter was in a cot until she was about 18 months as i thought it might help her sleep better and it worked otherwise i would of left her in her cot, it's OK to be in a cot up to the age of 2, but if you have any concerns and feel it's best for your daughter to go in a bed then it's totally your own choice.
