If you're referring to a United States 1 cent 1944 a.k.a "penny", then it's worth around 5 cents in average circulated grade. It's a common date and coin collectors only seek those in premium uncirculated conditions.
If you're referring to a 1 penny 1944 coin from either Great Britain, Australia or New Zealand, then it's worth around 20 cents to 50 cents in average circulated condition.

Sometimes the date of the coins doesn't really matter.

I had a 1928 dime from straits of melacca, took it to an antique dealer, worth 5bucks.

Unless you're the only person in the world that have 'that' particular 1944 coin.
