my cat is very skinny. she is an oriental mix type of cat with long fur. i dont know what she is exactly. but even though orientals tend to be thin, id like to put some fat on her. she is skin and bones. recently someone who came over told me she is the skinnest cat she ever saw. i really want her to be healthy.

right now i am feeding her Canin. I honestly dont think its working. i think she doesnt eat it. i have been feeding it all her life. sometimes i give her tuna or a little wet food as a treat and to fatten her up, but then she gets sick. is there a dry food that will put some pounds on her butt? thanks!

It sounds like your feline may have worms. Take her to the vet and have her examined and shots brought up to date. She should also be spade. As far as throwing up her food, that sounds like it could be a hairball problem
(being she has long hair). Over the counter medicine for hairballs work fine.
Perhaps she will gain to that healthy cat you desire.
Good luck

Royal Canin have a cat food called Exigent - this is for fussy cats (this is what I feed all mine). If you find she isnt eating as much, you can try this as she should like this one. Alternatively, you can put her on Kitten until she fattens up, as this is a higher calorie food and contains higher protein. Sensible has higher fat than Exigent, and is also designed for cats that are sensitive, so you can also try this one. Because they are all from the same brand, you won't cause any stomach upsets from changing between the Canin you feed now and one of these ones. Cats as a general will graze throughout the day anyway, so don't stress if it not all gone as soon as you put the food down, and orientals will tend to have problems keeping weight on (and tend to be fussy!). If you are using the Siamese, probably switch to one of the others I mentioned, as this regulates the calorie intake, to help maintain the slim build of the oriental. Additionally Indoor is calorie controlled and will inhibit her putting on weight. Check out www.royalcanin.com for the full list of cat food.
Also, just because your cat is indoor-only does not erradicate the chances of parasites (but it does reduce the incident). You can actually bring fomites in on your shoes and such (cysts or fleas in the soil, eggs in the bedding etc), or if you have fed raw kangaroo or beef, this can give your animals worms (part of the worms life-cycle is to migrate to the muscle of the host and lay dormant as a cyst until ingested, where it completes its reproductive phase). You can get worming tablets that you only have to do every 3 mths, and this provides piece of mind.
Avoid a wet-food if she has a sensitive stomach, this will tend to aggrivate the problem. Also if she is sensitive, avoid switching and changing foods too rapidly, as this upsets the gut-flora and will cause diarrhoea and vomitting. If you want to moisten her food, float the kibbles in some water, or pour boiling water, leave to soak and cool and there is your wet food!
If you are still concerned, just visit your vet and they will be able to give you some advice and some guidance, and rule out underlying medical issues (remember also that some peoples outlook on the ideal weight is way out of proportion, and usually overweight!) Good luck!

I would be willing to bet that your cat has a thyroid disorder. A simple blood test will determine this, and there are medicines that will help. My cat was also losing weight, and that ended up being the problem. Also, check with the vet about which food to feed. Some cats have food allergies, and that may be why he vomits after eating. Good luck!

When i first got my cat (siamese cross) she was very under weight and could only eat dry food so we gave her dry kitten food-purina for sensitive stomachs and we treated her for worms and also gave her conditioning tablets as time went by she gained weight and can now eat wet food aswell-premiere chicken fillet in jelly. I would take her to the vet though for a check up!
Good luck!

I have a very fat cat, and she doesn't eat much, but also doesn't exercise. I used to feed her max cat, but she seemed to get sick on that, so now I feed her iams, which a friend of mine who owns a pet store says it's just filler food, pretty much fattening I guess, so maybe give that a try. I give her that one cuz she doesn't seem to throw it up.

Since everything seems to make her "sick" you may want to take her to the vet to rule out digestive disorders.

Aside from that, you can give her a good brand of kitten chow. The concentrated nutrition it provides should help her out. When I adopted my brother's kitten (KC) he was 2 months old. Three months later I adopted his twin brother (Casper). Casper was literally half his size! A few short months later, he had fattened up so I literally couldn't tell them apart, short of collar colors! My family asked me if I put Miracle Gro in their food. LOL In truth, the ONLY thing I fed them was Purina Kitten Chow. No table food, no treats, no wet food. Period. Hope this helps!

Blessings

I would have her checked for worms as this will keep a cat thin, and since she will only eat dry food, change it to kitten food which is higher in fat and proteins.

Well, I have a 22 lb. cat. She got that way by lack of exercise (she's an indoor cat and very lazy), eating all day, and endless cat treats. Now I'm trying to get her to lose weight!

give her some eggs in her diet, more protein foods, more meat, tuna, things like this, dry foods won't add pounds, like a high protein diet

Give her kitten food. Kitten food is high in fat and in time it will cause her to gain weight.
Hope this helps.
