I don't understand why it would be that big a deal if Jesus and Mary were married? Or if they procreated and had a son, or for that matter, a daughter. Isn't family a big part of christianity?
Can anyone tell me why this is so controversial?

Jesus isn't God, Jesus is the SON of God, and i was refering to Mary Magdelene... Not Mary as in Jesus' Mother...

*Summer* I did not disrespect the memory of Mary, nor suggest incest, I would not accuse Jesus of any sinful acts nor anyone else for that matter. I was simply asking a question based on recent media information. That was all. Please dont accuse me of such things, because it was never my action or intent.

To Everyone, I am simply asking based on the current news story in the media. My question was in no way to offend ANYONE, rather simply trying to understand WHY it would be a problem.
If this has offended anyone, I am truly sorry. I only ask to understand.

I completely agree with you on this one. I asked this question once, and received no satisfactory answers, so good luck with this.

Personally, I'd like to think that he did have a family. Anyone who gave so much and died so horribly deserves it. I'm bothered that, while his message was all about love, people would wish to deny him that. It seems selfish.

I don't know why the controversy. He was a 33 year old Jewish man who lived during a time when most Jewish men his age were married. It was almost a requirement of sorts, or so it seems. People have said that he was divine~to have married and had a family tarnishes that image in some way. Bull.

This would be a problem because it would create a line of family that stems from Jesus. Then some individual could claim that they have family ties to Jesus! This would infact create a problem due to the many conflicts between religion these days. I guess in Christianity, family is a big deal, but all are considered each others brother or sister and relation by bloodline isn't important.

Who cares if Jesus married or slept with a prostitute?

According to Jesus we're all sinners anyway, so why should Jesus be any different to the rest of us? He told us that God will forgive those who have sinned if we recognise we have sinned. Although I don't see how simply sleeping with Mary Magdalene makes Jesus a sinner, but anyway...

If he did have a son by her, I guess it's controversial as it kind of turns on its head, everything that we've been told by the Christian church since the year 0. As we all know the Church is so resistant to change it's untrue so they'll totally deny this tomb could have anything to do with Jesus.

There's no reason to assume he didn't have a son... he was a bloke after all, and it would have been odd in those times if he didn't have a family. Perhaps it wasn't mentioned in the Bible as it was considered trivial at the time.

This is one of those things that we'll just never know, although it'd be fascinating if there was conclusive proof.

Please dont disrespect the memory of Mary by suggesting incest.
Donot accuse a Prophet & messenger of God Isa (as)
(aka jesus) of such a sinful act, He left this earth unmarried & childless, He will return & get married & have children. He will be married for 19 years & then he will pass on (die).

Read the Quran & you will find the truth.

I apologise if i have taken your question out of context.

Family i s a big part of every religion, maybe why people are against the mere thought of Jesus being married, would be that in all religious scriptures that belive in Jesus , they all state that he is not married & by people saying that he is, they are misleading society by giving them false information

In the light of christianity - if Jesus was married then what Priest & Nuns practice (total abstainance from sex for eternity) would be a lie & that would mean that a part of christianity is false. So maybe that is why christians are against it.

In terms of Islam - We are against it but not as strongly as christians because with all due respect to christianity - it is the bible that has the verse that caused all this controversy. In the Quran there is no such verse , the quran clearly states Jesus (as) was not married , He will come downfrom heaven to earth & he will embrace Islam , then he will get married & have children. After 19 years of marriage he will depart from this world. Islam does not believe that someone should not get married, in fact Islam encourages marriage , stating that part of your religon will be completed if you get married.

So in actuality the error that caused this controversy is in the Bible.

It will be a controversial on your own way of imagining things that did not happen. Please do not invent things that did not exist specially that you use Jesus and Mary as your example. You are cursing our God on that matter. Instead of cursing anybody else how would you like to write some convincing words to believe what you believe or just remain silent about it because we are not minding your belief. You way of asking question is not to win friends or to learn something which you do not know but will only create misunderstanding between a supposed answerer and you as questioner and yet you are creating unknown enemy

Been reading the Da Vinci Code have you? Or watched the movie.

I think it makes alot more sense (and makes Jesus very VERY human rather than anything divine) than the garbage Christians would have everyone believe.

It does, however, mean that they've been living millenia based on lies. Which is why its so controversial. Most of them cant take the thought that they may have wasted so many generations. If the divinity of Jesus is in question, then what else in the bible might be wrong?

It throws everything into question.

Even though it does make one heck of alot more sense.

The author of that novel was a genius with his puzzles and his unreal knowledge of history.

while most people conclude it would mean nothing to anyone's faith.
I believe he did have a daughter for sure, her name was TAMARA. I have a manuscript in my possesion that says Tamara went to India.
However if it were proven, it would also prove How Much christianity whether it be protestant or catholic!, that THEY have a false belief. and for every false belief that can be proven, it sustains the allegation that christianity is more of a myth than a restored christian christian church. And that a restoration of the truth must be more correct.
but all churches and religions have some form of corruption and truth. All have faith and good works of righteousness. God will not reject those that come to him that Fear Him and do works of righteousness. its a principle of grace and mercy and forgiveness.

but its still a fact if Somone can prove that jesus was married and had children, it would put many historical churches to shame and prove them wrong in their theology and divinity.

Jesus, as a symbol of virgin purity, is a symbol of infertility and death. Christianity, as a death cult, enjoys the Celebate Hanged God whose return marks the End of the World. They just can't wait for the world to end, all life to be exstinguished, and His father, Yahweh the Torturer to Eternally Torment most of the sentient life that has ever existed on this planet. The idea that Jesus had a wife, sex, and fathered children turn their religious views upside down. That would mean He was a virilant, normal man with human desires, normal sex drive, and makes Him a symbol of Life, not Death.

Because if what you say were revealed to be true, it would shatter the foundation of Christianity, and everything that many people believe would be proven to be false. It would show that Jesus was as human and mortal as the rest of us, and that a large part of the Bible was a myth (which I believe most of it to be, anyway).

Even if you disregard all that, if they found his body at all then the bible is false. The bible says that Jesus physically ascended about forty days after his resurrection. If they've found his body, then this can't be true.
