Red wine... good for the heart too, just consume in moderation. Other alcoholic beverages pack -up calories.

the calorific value of alcoholic drinks is roughly the same per unit of alcohol, so a pub measure of spirits is approximately the same as a 125ml glass of wine or half a pint of lager. It's not exactly but it's close enough. So rather than thinking what is best to drink consider how many units you want to drink. If you want to make your calories go further try mixing red wine with diet lemonade or soda water. I also met one lady who enjoyed drinking gin and tonic. In an effort to lose weight she started leaving the gin out and just pretending it was in there. It worked for her. Another tip you might find useful is to get in the habit of drinking at least 1 glass of water for every alcoholic drink. It will slow down your drinking, cause you to drink less and save you ever getting a hang over. If you are drinking wine at home just having a small glass can make a difference.
Whatever changes you make, make sure you can live with them because if you revert back to you old habits your weight will go straight back on.
Good luck

I'm really suprised how wrong so many people are on this, especially the guy who suggested orange juice as a mixer, have you read the back of the carton?
Vodka is water and alcohol and has very little else in to give you calories, mix with diet coke or diet lemonade. You will never lose wieght if you are drinking alcohol regularly

As for sugar and calorie content Vodka, tonic and a twist of lime is the best. It's lowest in calories and sugar and if you're a vodka drinker then you win hands down! :)
Do not drink white wine, even the dry has too many calories, diet cola will cause you gas if you drink too much with the vodka, an inflated stomach doesn't suit any of us.
The best drink s absolutely Vodka, tonic and lime - the lime will help you with the taste and your metabolism.
Perhaps with the Vit C it wont give you such a hangover the next day either! lol! :) xx

If you are on a strict diet then you shouldn't drink alcohol at all because it's full of calories.
But if on any occasion where you can't pass without at least a glass of something than go with orange juice + vodka. Keep in mind that there should be more juice than vodka :)

hi, i was on a diet last year and my doctor recommended cutting out alcohol during the week, but when we had friends over on weekends i could have a light white wine check the box/bottle it says lower in calories, and mix it with some soda / sparkling water, you soon get used to the taste and i still drink it, it is very refreshing. but try and stick to one or two glasses only? avoid anything with lots of sugar, good luck!

White wine with soda is a good long drink with ice but if you like your shorts, the colourless kind are the least in calories ie vodka, gin, bacardi mix them only with diet or low calorie drinks ie diet coke or slimline tonic, there are about 56 calories in a vodka and diet coke and bacardi and diet coke

Well they really say no alcohol is good on a diet, but I did read in this magazine, that after you loose a few pounds, it's okay to have a glass of wine occasionally.
