i have old movies that i want to put onto dvd before they become unplayable and would like to know if its as easy as pressing play on the vcr and record on the dvd recorder once they are linked together or is there more to it than that

That's about all there is to it......
But the VHS quality will make the video obviously bad.....

You may want to purchase a TIME BASE CORRECTOR, install it between your VCR and the DVD to correct the brightness and sync problems associated with VCRs and the Tape Speed.

I've seen some around $200....but, you get what you pay for too.

It has to be a DVD Recorder, and you cannot copy movies LEGALLY because of coding on them. The earlier ones you can do without any problems.

That is basically correct.
You will save a lot of space transferring movies to DVD.

If these are commercial tapes, you may have problems with Macrovision.
