I feel like I am going crazy. Just across my office, a new building is coming out and it's the loudest noise you can imagine that is constantly pounding on my head and in my ears. I feel so tense I cannot work and I go home with the noise still echoing in my head for hours. I think I even dream of the noise. I feel like crying coz there's nothing I can do... The building will still take a year to finish and I don't want to quit my job. Help Please!

Ear plugs! Use the ones they use in shooting ranges of airplane maintenance crew. They're comfy unlike those bulky headgears. Just make sure you put up a sign that you're wearing one, or you wont be able to hear, say, phone rings or even your co-workers.

The first thing you could try is buying a package of ear plugs. They make very discreet foamy ones that are flesh colored so nobody will even know you have them on. If you don't want anyone to know you're wearing earplugs, you can move your hair in front of your ears so nobody will see.

If it's allowed, you can also try listening to music in headphones to cover up the construction noise.

This sounds a bit more extreme, but if ear plugs aren't a good option, you can also talk to your boss about the noise affecting your work performance/ hurting your ears and maybe moving to a different area of the building where it's not so loud.

Is it at all possible to wear ear protection? I have the same problem with city noises in general. Sirens, barking dogs, car alarms, horns...I put in ear plugs and it helps me a lot. Tell me, how did lithium change you? Thanks :)
