Most of the answers you got so far failed to notice the word Vitara. Your Suzuki can easily hold a car seat in the back seat.

As for a roll over, the math is pretty simple. You have a central hump that goes from driver side to passenger behind and over the front seats. This is a roll bar of sorts and is structurally sound enough to support the vehicle. The two bars that go from this to the windshield are supports, but I wouldn't bet my life that they would support the weight of the vehicle. The windshield definately won't support the vehicle.

So that being said draw an imaginary line from the front of the hood to the roll bar, then from the roll bar to the top of the tailgate. Anything above these two imaginary lines have a good chance of getting squashed in a rollover.

This goes for Jeeps and any other vehicle without a FULL roll cage.

No comment on the seat, but the soft top is dangerous in a roll over. Firstly the vitara shape (high/narrow) is going to roll easily; almost certainly any accident where a conventional car would skid has a good possibility for rolling. Passengers PROPERLY belted in will be ok(bruises excepted) in a simple slow speed roll on to the side, but there is also the possibility of other things penetrating the soft top and causing injury: there's no way it can be as safe as a full set of bodywork

A Vitara isn't a jeep. Its a import want to be and yes you could put a car seat in it.But personally I wouldn't put my child in any SUV that wasn't a real jeep. They aren't made has well.Especially if it is a soft top.Soft top trucks like yours aren't made with the same roll bar system a jeep has and if you roll yours it will collapse in on itself. And with a child in a car seat they have no were to go but under with the weight of the vehicle on top of them.By the way please don't insult my jeep by putting it in the same category has your want to be.

Well it should be possible, but judging by the Vitara's back seat it might not be possible (back rest is one moulded piece), I think some older style Baby sits should fit. the rollover, since the vitara is only half soft top (front is fix metal roof) it should protect the front occupants quite well, however this is different to the rear passengers, it is not safe for rear passengers since the roof structure is the same as the Top Gear Espace.

Yes the car seat will fit fine. If anything I'd much rather roll over in a Jeep than a regular car. All Jeep wranglers (since you mentioned soft tops) came with roll bars. The soft top is actually probably safe in a roll over. A flimsy fiberglass top with glass in it isn't going to protect you any, its just going to throw shards of broken fiberglass and glass at you. With the soft top, theres nothing to break.

Jeeps aren't the safest vehicle to be in an accident, but they sure aren't the worst thing you could be in either, but in a roll over, I'd sure like to be in my Jeep than any other vehicle I own.

it will fit fine

NO.its a false statement. all soft top cars are fitted with a device that extends the rear headrest to support the car in the event of rolling it.a child that is strapped in correctly will be fine if the car does roll.
however if your jeep is over 8 yrs old its best to get a new car as this might fail.
