No.....its dangerous for god's sakes....that's the whole point......yeah....let's make it legal so some sick **** can rape, torture, and kill.......and then bury the body somewhere to be discovered 10 years later..........if it was safe and everybody was happy go lucky, don't you think it would be legal? give me a break.....people die from that every year and some want to legalize it....doesn't surprise me that those who want it to be legal are men

p.s. only losers pay for sex..

Hi Simone, I did a term paper in College on this very subject. That was a long time ago. As some of my resources I used U.N. studies on the subject. Amsterdam has the right idea. Prostitution was de-criminalized. It became a tax paying business. Pros had to have regular health check ups and carried a health card to prove it, thereby reducing STD. "Johns" don't get mugged. Here in the States, just outside of Las Vegas there is a place that has had success with legalized Prostitution. I am afraid though, that the Southern Bible belt here in the States would not allow this to happen. They do represent a large portion of the voting block. There does seem to be a contrast in ideology since many of the Preachers from that block have been caught patronizing the Pros. Who knows what the future will bring. Politicians "coming out of the closet" and gay marriage being accepted. Can Legalized Prostitution be far behind.

Prostitution promotes adultery!! Thats a good reason why its not legal in the United States, except for Nevada...(you forgot that State). Sure, prostitution is legal in other Countries, and by being legal, if your wife was out of work, or another woman, say with kids, or just single, and they have an OPENING as a Prostitute....GUESS WHAT??? SHE HAS TO TAKE THE JOB!!! OH YEA!! That is what happens in those "other Countries!! Lemme see, in Germany, the prostitutes do thier thing...then, after a "good nights work", they go home to thier families...husband and kids! I dont want my wife to have to do that!! The reason for divorce rates, is because the couple arent Christians, and havent been counceled before marriage. (which I believe everyone should go through, as an older adult would be able to guide a younger couple and see the pitfalls before the couples actually go throught them). STD rates? Tell the "Johns" to wear protection...its all in the news, if people are so ignorant to avoid using them, then what can you do about that??? You can tell them til your blue in the face, but, if they dont practise it, then its thier fault. You cant FORCE everyone to use a condom...(yea its a shame, aint it?). Illegitamate children are because people with little or less education promote more children because they cant get a job and support themselve, thus they have to 'find something else to do' and making babies is the easiest thing they know! (Its a proven fact, that the most children to unwed mothers, are from those who are in the lower education scale!). I havent been to a lot of European Countries, except Germany, Norway, Holland, Spain, and Turkey, (all with the blessing of the Marine Corp). So, I dont know enough about all the Countries to give you a good answer to where its not legal, for prostitution... I wish you well.. Jesse

Any of you watch cathouse on HBO?

When we talk of legalizing prostitution. May people immedietly go to the context of trashy junkies trolling the streets in mini skirts with parts of them hanging out.

Theres also escorts and legal "cathouses" that are far from this model. It doesnt have to be organized crime and the great part about it is if it were legal and highly regulated we could put the following in place to solve many problems:

1) Manditory testing for STD's every 2 weeks - slows or stops the spread of HIV and many other STD's
2) Management regulation to weed out gang affiliation and stop the flow of money into the wrong hands.
3) Drug testing - Many prostitutes are stuck in the drug life and cant get out. The only easy buck they get is by selling themselves. Competition with legal prostitutes would reduce the ease of this money inflow.
4) Keeps people that are otherwise legally compliant out of jail and court system. Also keeps prostitutes, some of them anyway out of the system too.
5) Pimps become obsolete and powerless.
6) Tax revenue to apply towards programs of helping people with addictions.
7) Physical abuse can be better monitored as well as underage runaways making it into the trade can be better managed.

There are many other countries where this is legal. Some of them have a very well run system and we can learn from that example. Nevada also has a limited legalization of it. The only places where it really is an issue in that state are where it isnt legal to do it!

Yes.....as long as it's controlled and placed under strict guidelines. Health certificates, etc should also be made part of the program. Of course this will open up a new realm of counterfeiting health certificates, prostitutes that work outside the system and circumvent the regulations etc but it's a victimless crimes so to speak anyway.
There are plenty of other things to divert money and manpower towards rather than prostitution.
Of course this all hinges upon getting this past the religious right and their lobby.

I'm a Criminal Justice student very passionate about the field, and I thought about this for a minute. When you first think about it, you think: "Well, prostitution isn't that serious of a crime. Police need to be dealing with more important issues." BUT I believe that there would be plenty of negative impact on society if Prostitution was legalized. Right now, with it being a crime, Police keep an eye out for it, and this causes them to run into assaults, murders, and most of all, helps them keep an eye on human trafficking. If Prostitution was legalized, I think "the eyes" would be turned off of things such as human trafficking, and more pimps and prostitutes would get away with assaults, murders, and using drugs. These things ARE tied in together. Pimps constantly assault their prostitutes. Murders happen for territory reasons, and simply put, tons and tons of pimps and prostitutes are hopped up on drugs. WE NEED TO KEEP OUR EYES ON THESE INDIVIDUALS! therefore, Prostitution does not need to be legalized.

On the face of it it would allow police to concentrate more resources in the fight against serious crime. However the sex trade would still have to be carefully watched and monitored to ensure that women or young people are not forced to provide such services in conditions of near slavery. Legalizing prostitution would have some practical benefits - but it will bring along its own practical problems.

I was stationed in Panama Canal Zone in 1967. Prostitution was legal. The 'lady' was required to carry a health card with photo, she was required to see a doctor every 30 days.

It also is legal in Vegas and appears to 'work'

I think thats better than tying up the cops time chasing 'two bit' hookers on the streets.

Prostitution should not be illegal. It should be allowed under close state monitoring and supervision. Control them, keep them healthy and tax them heavily.

Legalizing prostitution (and drugs for that matter) is a very effective way to “clean it up”.

Please take notice that since a lot of policemen are on the take from the people that control illegal prostitution and trafficking is not at their best interest to legalize it.

So from the police point of view they want to keep it illegal.

No because almost all organized forms of prostitution such as escort services, etc. are ran by criminal organizations who then help use these funds to further drug trades.
If it was as simple as one consenting adult paying another for a little Tokyo sauna and suki suki then I would be fine with it. But unfortunately it is not.
If someone can figure out a way to keep the criminals out of it and make it a rent by the hour beav..then whose business would it be then.

Make it legal everywhere and it won't be such a big deal. Cops have better things to do than shaking down hos and johns . Of coarse it may be quite entertaining to them and they would possibly miss the excitement .
