The wrong site of surgery is performing a procedure on the wrong part of the body. An example is, cutting off the wrong leg.

Most places I work have the patient and/or surgeon mark the patient's skin with a marker before surgery to identify the site. We also do a "time out" before cutting skin to verify that we have the correct patient and are doing the correct surgery on the correct side.
