My dad who lives in France would lend me his car for an indefinite period. The car would stay insured in France. Would I be allowed to drive it here in England? Or would I need to have it insured here as well?
I would use the car occasionally only (not more that twice a month)

Hmm, interesting one!
Firstly, under English law the car has to be insured against "third party risks." So you would have to check on your dad's policy that his French insurance allows the vehicle to be driven in the UK

Secondly, it depends on what level of cover you want. If you want to cover the vehicle comprehensively, then it may be best for all involved in you register the vehicle in your name and take out the insurance policy in your name.

You will probably find that you are only insured to drive in the Uk for up to 90 days in any one insurance year. This is pretty much standard across europe. Its irrelevant how many times a week/month, its whether the car is physically outside of France for more than the 90 days

I take it the car's registered in France. That means it will be an "import" as far as the DVLA is concerned. There are specific rules regarding imported vehicles which you need to address before sorting out any insurance. Dad's insurance is unlikely to cover it's use in this country for more than a brief period.

Strongly suggest you ring the DVLA first.

Depends what type of insurance he has. If it's any driver with no restriction on what country then yes you could, but that's unlikely. It's likely you'll have to insure yourself as the main driver.

We what insurance your Dad has as you might be able to drive it over here. You could ring the dvla up and ask them as they would know alot more than us.
Good luck
