if I read the Canadian embassy information correctly:

Iraqi immigration to Canada is done through the Candian embassy in damascus, syria.

Lot 12,Autostrade Mezzeh
Damascus , Syria

Phone ( 011 963 011) 611-6692

There is also another Visa office in Dubai , U.A.E.
if that's easier.

OK, there are a lot of things you can try if you want to come to the US, but your background check will take a while, I'm afraid.

1. Last year we gave twice as many straight visas to Iraqis than the year before, so you can apply in Jordan or whatever embassy is most convenient.

2. We have special rules to let medical professionals in (we need them), and Doctors just won some kind of class action because it wasn't being applied to Doctors so much as nurses (I don't know if this is because Doctor's may need different qualifications under our standards, which is a separate issue.) You should look into that.

3. In any event short of asylum you will need a sponsor, so should check out what you would be qualified and go on Monster.com or some health care jobs site to see places you could get a job which are big enough (like hospitals or Universities) to be sophisticated about immigration issues.

4. We are going to give 7,000 Iraqi's asylum, and I have no idea how those are being chosen, but it was anounced in the last couple of weeks.

I am afraid I don't have real details on any of this. I will tell you that USCIS.gov is the government website, but also that if I were thinking 'strategy' rather than 'rules' I would want to speak to an immigration attorney. While I don't know of any way you can be sure they are a good one short of personal recommendations, you can check at least if they have bar enforcement actions against them (for being unethical or incompetant) by going to the state Bar Association or attorney registration site.

Also, there are a lot of Iraqis here in Dearborn Michigan, and other places and they likely have community or cultural groups who would answer questions as best they can.

Good luck!

You are welcome to Philippines, Mindanao which is a Muslim region. Write to your friend in the Philippines if you have one. Then you can proceed to Canada or Australia after your stint in our country.
