I USUALLY HAVE NO PROBLEMS WHEN LETTING HIM OUT OUT OUR GATE. HE WOULD BE OFF LEASH, WAIT TILL I LOCK DOOR, AND WALK ALONG WITH ME. HOWEVER, LATELY HE HAS BEEN STARTING TO BE BAD BY NOT LISTENING TO MY COMMANDS, AND JUST START TO WALK OFF HIMSELF TOWARDS THE PARK TO POTTY, CROSSING STREETS HIMSELF. NOW I ALMOST HAVE TO USE LEASH ALL THE TIME (AND PLZ DON'T GIVE ME THE LEASH LAW... I KNOW ABOUT IT ALREADY, DON'T COMMENT ON THAT PLZ). COULD IT BE BECAUSE I SHOULD BE LETTING HIM DO HIS POTTY SOONER, SO HE DOESN'T FEEL LIKE HE IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE. HE TENDS NOW TO LISTEN AT ALL IF HE REALLY NEEDS TO GO. BEFORE HE WOULD SIT ON COMMAND WHEN HE REACHED THE CORNER. HOW DO U PUNISH THEM WITHOUT PHYSICAL ABUSE? HE IS A ROTTIE, ALMOST 1YR.

your dog could be bored and needs more attention. also, being only 1 yr old, he could just be testing his limits with you, seeing what he can get away with and who really has the authority. work with your dog on one of those extendable leashes. you still have the control, but your dog is able to get a little bit farther away to explore. also, look into dog training school for you and your dog. petsmart offers great classes that are pretty affordable. don't perpetuate stereotypes of your dog and make sure you turn him into the a nice, well mannered dog.

First off, it's not your dog that is being bad...He's just doing what dogs do. You're the one with problem. Which could be easily fixed by attending some obedience classes with him. It sounds like to me, he just needs a refresher course, and it seems like you could use one too. Also, you need to know that walking your dog off leash places a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. What happens if your dog runs in front of a car? If he should attack another dog, or be attacked? If someone should lure him away from you? It's your responsibility to be in control of your dog at all times, and in places like a park or city streets, that is just not possible off leash. There are dog parks that are specifically for off leash play with your dog. They are specially constructed for your and your dogs safety.

Another thing that concerns me with your post is....How long are you waiting between times to take your dog out?

You need to look at your own training, or lack thereof, before you accuse your dog of "being bad". Did you ever reward your dog with treats or a game of tug for listening to you? Dogs do what is reinforcing, and if it's more reinforcing for your dog to go sniff instead of listening to you, then off he'll go.
Don't torture your dog by not letting him out when he needs to go, unless you'd like a dog that also starts to "ignore" his housebreaking. This is quite cruel.
Please look into a class or training so that you can learn how dogs learn. Don't punish your dog for your bad training!

he has reached sexual maturity ( teenager) go back to the leash for reinforcement... ( you dont want him to learn bad habits) stick with the leash thru this stage,,, and soon enough he will be back to being obedient.... make sure he is neutered....... also,, try a obedience class,,, this is good reinforcement for what you have already taught him,,and it will teach you to teach him to obey in all types of circumstances
