Yesterday in class before class started I was reading some print-outs that I have put in my binder. Some of my friends came in the classroom and I came to speak to another friend--leaving my binder open. One friend comes to my desk and reads my binder. I notice and say, "Don't do that..." and cover it. I had nothing to hide and it was simply an automatic reaction because I felt sort of 'stripped' (?). But I sort of felt bad because I had reacted that way.

Was I over-reacting? I really, really feel bad about it. Because she is a nice person and I love her as a friend. But was I over reacting?

I certainly believe that it is rude to read another person's open notebook/binder. Just because you didn't have anything in there to hide, doesn't mean that next time you won't have something very personal written. What if you were writing a romantic poem to your partner and your friend read it and teased you about it. Not only would the teasing hurt, but you would also feel violated that someone read something so personal of yours. Covering your notebook when you noticed your friend reading it was just a natural reaction to protect what is yours. Don't feel bad. :o)

don't feel to bad.....it was an invasion of your privacy and she shouldn't have been reading your binder ..(and more than likely she knows it..if not, maybe you taught her a needed lesson)....just act like it never happened and go on as normal....but you are right in protecting your privacy...those run offs might not have been important...but what if it was something that was private and important to you...she would have been reading it.....you were not in the wrong........so, don't worry about it...

No, you were not over-reacting. She was invading your space. It was too presumptuous and she assumed a right that had not been given to her.

I once had someone visit my home. My visitor went through my house, opening doors, to look at everything. I asked her not to do that. It put me in an awkward position in having to adjust someone that should have known better.

Don't feel bad, you were not over reacting.
You don't have to let anyone to read your books or notes even if they're open because they are private.
People must learn to respect some personal borders.

Well you did obviously feel insecure that very moment ,which caused such a reaction. But its ok to let others know of your boundaries that you don't let others to cross over. It's ok let your friend know about your reacting that way.She would understand:)

You were not over-reacting.

Personally, I can't stand when people do that to me. It's an invasion of privacy to me.
