Artificial sweetners are usually non-electrolytic substances which don't dissolute in the fluids of gastroinestinal tract.Consequently, they aren't absorbed and metabolised and hence excreted readily along with urine.

I wondered this myself! I thought it was impossible for splenda to taste so good and still be zero calories...so I did some investigating. Many sweetners now contain sucralose instead of sucrose. Now I can't remember the specific molecular breakdown, but I do remember it had something to do with an extra chloride ion that made the whole molecular chain more stable. This way it was unable to be broken down by the body's digestive system and would just pass through. It still could technically have calories, they just can't be digested.

Speaking for a guy who has struggled with weight control all my life. I personnaly find that artificial sweetners have no calories however they tend to drive hunger craving. Im not sure if there is a physiologic reason however if you do the research I have a feeling you will find this information to be true. GO WATER!!!

plain water does not contain any calories and what they are giving with artificial flavour & sweetener are only chemicals for our taste and they do not contain any kind of nurtrition to give calories.
