It depends on what the online site does.

If it's a last minute site the hotels are connected to the system with their offers directly, and bookings are instant. I'll give you an example of that below with cheaperthanhotels ( lastminute ).

Last minute websites are best, since they respond instantly ... but ......

Some ( not all ) of the requests outside 21 days have to go first to the hotel, and hotels are notoriously slow in acknowledging emails. Fortunately, the big players can back up this problem with their market power, so I'd have no concerns about the bookings not being honoured.

Here's some examples of how last minute and year round accommodation is presented:

The chances of getting a hotel deapends on the resort/area and time of year. For example in on the main holiday resorts in spain for peak season (July-August) very little. But if you have requested a cuty hotel for Feb, then you have every chance. The supplier has probably gone over their allocation/guarantee and id it is lat minute (within next 5 days) might have to check with the hotel direct to get another room. At no time should the company have taken your money until the accommodation is confirmed.

Hope this will be of some help

Yes I do. Thats the only way I bok accomodation. Its cheaepr than going direct with the actual hotel.
www.wotif.com.au is 100% THE BEST
The companies like octopus travel buy the rooms of teh hotel for a discounted rate, then sell online.
The hotels prefer all their business to go online agents as it frees up their time to concentrate on hotel services & hospitality etc
I have waited up to 48hours & I got it.
Why dont you double book another room with another hotel, just incase one isn't available.
You could always ring the hotel directly & ask if they have any reservations or ask them if they can tell you another agents name you could ring that they sell their rooms too.

I have, all over the world, and never had a problem. You may need a more reputable site.
