It is arthritis, and there are two forms of this. Osteo-arthritis tends to come with age. Most women start with this after the meno-pause, as the bones begin to degenerate. HRT can delay the onset of this, and omega 3 fish oils are also beneficial.

The biggest thing you can do to prevent osteo-arthritis is weight bearing excercise. This increases the bone density, and can be all you need to do to prevent the onset of the condition. It is something which you should keep up, though, particularly as you approach middle age.

As you have such a high incidence of this in your family, it may be well worth asking your GP for a bone density scan. This will tell you one way or the other if you are likely to be susceptible to it, and you can start a serious programme of excercise accordingly.

The other form of arthritis is rhuematoid arthritis, which is not age related, and is much more debilitating. It can come on at any age and can quite literally cripple sufferers completely. It is incredibly painful and not so easy to prevent.

Good luck with this.

It's Duperons(or dueterons not sure about the spelling and spell check won't help!) disease. It's caused by a thickening of the ligaments in the hand, Margaret Thatcher had it, so did my Father-I seem to have avoided it-I do a lot of press ups, don't know if that helps but it is a hereditary disease,of which I am unsure about cures.Hope it doesn't happen

I think it is osteo-arthritis. There are many forms of arthritis, but this is a really debilitating type.

Visit http://www.arthritis.org/ for more information, as you are better off getting information on this from a good source.

I know a lady with a terrible form of this and it also affects her feet.

I would be looking into rheumatoid arthritis but also a lupus diagnosis also there is other autoimmune diseases that can mimick the sometimes more obvious ones we all right away think of.

I would be seeing a rheumy and getting a full blood workup done this usually will answer your questions regarding any autoimmune disease.

You may see an ashtray, but I see a boob holder for a hot chick bending over. Either way, both are addictive and costly past-times. P.S. You can keep the ashtray, I will stick with my vision. P.P.S. Since this is the etiquette section, I must say "thank you."

I don't know but your mum must. Ask her to write it down for you and what she knows about it.
