As long as the slug is no larger than the diamiter of the barrel at the end then your fine.
The only Time you may ask for trouble is if you using magnums, then you have to refer to weather the barrels are proofed to such a dagree to take such cartridge.
I have a webbley&scott bolt action, its also silenced great little gun for using slugs through.

You can safely shoot a slug in a .410 shotgun with a full choke. There will be no damage to the barrel or choke. NEVER try to shoot a .44mag. shell in a .410. Some guns like the T/C Contender are made to shoot both the .410 shotgun shell and the .45 long colt, but DON'T try to fire a .44mag. out of the .410. The .410 slug has very little kinetic energy so a lot of states make the use of it for deer illegal.

It might work, but the fit is very tight. For most shotguns, you need an improved choke or larger. My .410 and I think most .410's are full chokes. This helps keep the pattern together because there is less shot in the small shot shell of a .410.

I would NEVER take a chance and have never shot a slug out of my .410.

Also, you can't shoot a .44 magnum either as some idiot suggested. In some guns you can interchange between a .410 shotgun shell and a .45 Long Colt (not ACP), but I wouldn't try it in a regular shotgun, especially a full choke.

If you have doubts, you might check the website or the manufacturer and ask about shooting slugs out of your particular gun.

.410 slugs are marginal things. Slugs manufactured by Federal come in at .394" in diameter, and Winchester slugs come in at .389" in diameter. Remington slugs come in at .402" in diameter. A full-choked .410 shotgun has a bore that measures .375" at the muzzle. So even the sloppiest-fit slug (the Winchester) has to compress .014" in diameter before exiting the barrel. Fortunately, Foster-type shotgun slugs, which are the ones you typically find for .410 shotguns are made of soft lead, and have these silly (only silly because they don't actually spin-stabilize the projectile. Foster slugs hit the target pointy-end first because these slugs are designed much like badminton birdies . . . i.e. they're front-heavy) rifled grooves carved into them. When passing through a full choke, it's these rifling lands that get squashed flat into the main body of the projectile, permitting generally safe passage, though the sudden compression and deceleration of the slug right as it emerges from the barrel will do nasty things to its accuracy at ranges beyond 25 yards or so (though some compression is necessary, because even the largest slug commonly available for the .410 is substantially undersized. However, the size of choke the manufacturers had in mind, for best results are cylinder, improved cylinder, and modified improved.) Since a .410 shell also carries a relatively miniscule charge of powder, and is limited to 14,000 PSI peak chamber pressure, even the slowest powders used in this shotgun, like Hodgdon H110 or Lil'Gun will have completely burned within the first 10 to 15 inches of the barrel, so you generally don't have to worry about causing overly dangerous pressure spikes behind the slug either.

So, it's fine to shoot the OCCASIONAL slug through a full-choke .410 shotgun. Just don't make a habit of it, since while soft lead slugs may compress, they won't compress as well as column of shot pellets buffered by air . . . so if you shoot enough slugs through a full-choke .410 shotgun, you'll eventually ruin the end of the barrel.

And don't be a dummy and shoot .45 Colt shells through a plain-Jane .410 shotgun either. They have .452" to .454" diameter bullets. You might've gotten away with it back in the days of soft, swagged bullets sitting atop blackpowder, but with the modern hard-cast or jacketed bullet sitting atop a charge of smokeless powder . . . you'd be asking for trouble.

Yes you can shoot a lead slug through a full choke barrel on a .410. It will most likely not be accurate and can lead the barrel at the choke, but in a sound shotgun should be safe.

It's not advisable to fire a slug out of a full choked shotgun. It may not hurt it, but it might. That is from manufacture supplied information for hunter safey courses.

As for shooting the 44 mag out of a .410. That is one of the stupidest bits of advice I have ever heard. Shotguns don't have the barrel pressures of a rifle or pistol. Look at the barrel wall thickness in each. Notice how a 44 mag has barrel at least ten times as thick?

It can be done, but you shouldn't. And there are few things in the shooting sports more useless than a 410 slug, anyway. Not sporting for deer, too much lead for small game. (Yes, I know there are people who use them for deer, but that doesn't mean they should.)

the only way you should ever shoot a slug load in a shot gun is with a rifled barrel the barrel is grooved like a pistol,if you shoot the slug in a non rifled barreled it will dis troy the gun . the choke would be the secondary issue so the answer is use the right gun and ammo for the right gun . reading the manuals that come with your guns would explain all you need to know, if you bought a used gun go on line to that gun maker and request a manual . most of them are down loadable as well good luck and remember safety is the first rule with any gun bushmtn@yahoo.com
