I commend your Pastor for not being so fundamental in his beliefs. I do believe that hell is separation from the Truth. Having a good heart is the most important thing, and not religion!!!

According to the bible (which I believe) hell is a very real place. There is some scripture which alludes to all punishment not being the same. Many people will go to hell but my belief is that they will not receive the same punishment. God is a merciful God.
I do not know what your pastor is trying to say. I have never heard a pastor say that hell is only a place where there will be some unhappiness.

Foir me, hell is not a place at all, it is a fear put into the hearts and minds of everyone in attempts to control them; basically, for me, that is what religion is all about.

Both are correct. There is no Heaven. It is a myth the Devil made up so he could laugh at us when we ALL end up in Hell, regardless of how "good" we are.

he's saying whatever he feels like; it's religion... you're SUPPOSED to make stuff up. just flow with it. make up a purple tiger, wouldn't that be neat? it could do magic!
for me, Hell is a real place and it's in Michigan.

I would say perhaps he does not want to offend his congregation by telling them the complete and utter truth.
Hell is real and it is desolate and cold and gloomy and hot.
