I am 18, and 5'1. I look like i weigh about 140, but in actuality, i weigh 176 pounds.(something that i am very ashamed of.) I am not able to go to the gym more than once a week, due to situations at my house. Can anyone offer any diet/exercise advice that i can follow easily at home?

First of all, congratulations on having a healthy goal (all the peopel on here wanting to weigh less than 100 pounds scare me!) If you rush it, you'll make yourself sick and gain it all back. If you have a family doctor, talk to him or her. Or see a nutritionist.

Try to lose about one pound a week.

Exercise tips:
- Walk more. Use any excuse. Get off the bus early and walk teh rest of the way. Walk to the store instead of driving. Ride your bike to class. Walk the neighbor's dog while she's out of town. Take the stairs and stay away from elevators and escalators.
- Start lifting. You can use soup cans if you have noodle arms like me. Move furniture around your room. Vacuum obsessively. Pull everything out of every cupboard, wash and dry the shelves, then put it back on, re-organized.
- Move more. Do sit-ups and squats while you watch TV. Unless you're having a meal, in class, sleeping, at work, or in the bathroom, move. You can even just flex muscles while you're waiting in line.
- Every morning, and every night, jump straight up into the air as high as you can ten times.

Diet tips:
- Don't stop eating!
- Eat a large salad (with a vinegar dressing, not creamy) before lunch and dinner. It doesn't count as salad if it's made of iceberg lettuce. Use greens that are full of flavor and color. Toss on brightly colored vegetables.
- Eat more slowly in general. Sit down to eat. No TV or books. Relax, and listen to your body.
- Switch to low-fat or skim milk if you haven't already.
- If you're up for it, give up meat. If you do this and you aren't familiar with healthy veggie eating, DEFINITELY talk to your doctor before you try it. This wil lower your overall caloric intake and cut out a lot of saturated fat. However, you need to be careful to get good protein and iron and vitamins and fatty acids.
- Skip refined sugar (that means corn syrup) and white flour and rice. Switch to whole wheat and brown rice.
- Eat more fruit. Three servings a day.

Good luck, lady!

Walk for 30 minutes every day, including weekends, Mondays, and Fridays. Do at least 30 minutes of weight training each week. Do 60 minutes of additional, higher intensity cardio each week.

Cut back on the foods you eat with high fat and high sugar content. Eat only single servings (read the label) with less than 3 grams trans fat and 3 grams sugars. Get rid of anything in your diet that is non-nourishing: mayonnaise and other condiments, salt, vinegar, white flour products and canned foods.

Eat breakfast, and eat five small meals per day instead of three big meals. Don’t starve yourself during the day, but if you don't wake up famished, then you ate too much the day before. Stop eating at least two hours before you go to bed.

Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night. Turn off the TV and the computer. Sleep is vitally important.

Don't consume alcohol—alcohol is nothing more than empty calories with no nutritional value. Some people will argue that alcohol has some health benefits when consumed in moderation—I’m not debating that—but we’re talking about weight loss here. Lay off the booze if you want to lose the fat.

Drink lots of water, then drink more. Not tea, not Gatorade, not milk. Water. If your urine isn’t almost clear, you need to drink more water.

Good luck.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

First of all, stop drinking soda. And start drinking water. Water is good for you and it has no calories.

Also, start moving...walking, running, jogging, etc for atleast 30 minutes.

And lastly, watch what you eat. Limit the amount of fast food or else cut it out completely. Limit the bad and go heavy on the good food.
