I think some of it is just gullibility. Someone who will believe unquestioning in magic sky fairies is prepared to believe almost anything. That's why scam artists have often been draped in the robes of the pious. It's a slam dunk to take money from a Christian.
Then there are the deliberate fabrications. More sinister by far.
It certainly does nothing for the credibility of Christians, does it?

To create a more enticing ideaology to bind people as a group. A mistranslation of a word led to the christian beliief in the immaculate conception. Even hardcore biblical scholars know that. When the basic tenents of Christianity were laid out at the council of Nicea, the folks who decided to let people believe in it knew it too. It makes for a more powerful story. A virgin birth proves divinity.

For me, they can't accept that there are people in the world who believe things different to their own, and like most releigious fanatics, they want everyone to believe their way of thinking, to the point of pushing them into converting.
They don't accept that there are different religions with some points the same and some different, they just want to try and accert dominance over everyone and hallucinate that their's is the only true religion, when in fact, religions all over the world are the right religion, they just differ on a few matters, but they all have the same base of origin.
As a side note for the perosn who said they miss the days of the old witch burning, I should pooint out that Paganism is one of the oldest religions on the planet, pre-dating even Christianity and Catholisicm by more thousands of years.
It isn't any wonder why we Pagans are somewhat afraid to tell everyone about our beliefs, in today's religous-controlled world, with comments like what you just said.
Blessed Be.

If its out of the Bible it is not fabrication.
However, the Trinity concept is a fabrication, as the word itself or even its Greek equivalent, does not appear in the Bible.
If it were true, Jesus would have identified huimself as God. He did not, but always directed worship to his Father in heaven.

when you translate something. words change, and the English is very good at this, they change the meaning of their own word, GAY once meant happy/joyous now means SODOMITES. in America the word COMRADE. Messiah in Hebrew means the one who is anointed, in Greek they call it "Kristos" as the English don't have a word/meaning for it they use the Greek and turn it to Christ. from there they invent a new religion, called CHRISTIANITY, Jesus a Hebrew a Jew never heard the word possibly doesn't even know what it means!

How can you say that we Fabricate so much? Just because we can have faith without seeing. Our truth lives within us. To know truth is such a blessed thing.

To make tales and legends attractive , you need to fabricate a lot. That's what fictional literature is all about.
I much prefer "Lord Of The Ring" though...

Christians are allowed- just like everyone else - to write novels, tell stories, create dramas, movies, etc. Jesus told many many parables - stories that were made up.
Don't confuse creativity with lying.

The truth is boring. Make up a good lie. One that brings a tear to your eye, or one that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Strong emotion will make you want to believe it.
Even if logical sense screams at you that it's not true.
