My friend's brother told my friend the name, but forgot what it was. He thinks it starts with an "N". Well, while I patiently wait for an answer, I shall be playing Elite Beat Agents! (I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash, It's a gas, gas, gas!)

Are you thinking of the Deists? They believe that there's a god that started everything in motion, but doesn't get into the day to day meddling.

Nincompoop? Just kidding ... Deist can just mean someone who believes in God, but it also has a more specific meaning. A Deist believes that God made the Universe and all the physical laws which make it work, but that he has used a "hands off" approach ever since. God will not interfere with what happens in the Universe - no miracles - and he probably isn't interested in our prayers or worship, either.

One word I can think of that starts with "N" that fits your description is "nondenominational". However, that isn't really a belief structure or theology in and of itself, merely a category usually ascribed to a group like a church which is very broadly inclusive.

If you're looking for a particular belief, as other posters say "deism" or "theism" might be a good choice.
