Zionism, the national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel, advocated, from its inception, tangible as well as spiritual aims. Jews of all persuasions, left and right, religious and secular, joined to form the Zionist movement and worked together toward these goals. Disagreements led to rifts, but ultimately, the common goal of a Jewish state in its ancient homeland was attained. The term "Zionism" was coined in 1890 by Nathan Birnbaum. The return of Israel to the promised land is a promise from God
Cheers!

The Zionist mentality gave the jews of the diaspora a central theme to rally around and continue as a culture and people. There is a tremendous power in the way the jews maintained their identity as a group because it provided protection and a network throughtout the world for thousands of years until they returned to Isreal. Personally I think it would have made more sense to give them Germany and avoid all the mid east ******** we are involved in now. Then again it would have just created the same mess a little farther north.

Hi, dear foe!
Many Christians believe that the nation of Israel and its buildup is a direct fulfillment of prophecy, that the best thing Christians can do to hasten the second appearing of the Lord Jesus is to encourage and support the Jews in Israel.

Before you can answer that, you have to define Zionism, which, apparently from just this post, has not been done. Multiple definitions abound in this thread already..

Zionism is a political movement used by some Christians to "fulfill" the prophecy of the bible.
