How do they get the music for car commercials?

Do they commission them, or do they choose them? Some of that music is good!

These days nearly all the music for car commercials is licensed directly from the artist. Not sure which commercials/music you consider good! but my guess is you're thinking of spots that use exisiting tracks from artists such as John Mellencamp, Aerosmith, and Bob Seeger.

both it is up to the ad agency they decide who to hire to do what.
