your question really is: Is there a God?

God says very clearly in the bible, "If you seek for me, you will find me." Makes no difference if you believe the bible or not. Seek Him. Pray sincerely to Him. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Confess your sins to Him. If you have a bible, read it, ask God to make it real to you.

If you sincerely reach out to God, God will lead you to greater truths.

god bless

Not in the traditional sense that most religions tell you about. you do not have an immortal soul taht is rewarded in Heaven or punished in a fiery hell. The soul is you. We can see this by considering Genesis 2:7 where God breathes life into Adam and he became a living soul or being. When we die, our soul (or our life, essentially us) ceases to exist. Where was Adam before he existed? He was nowhere, he simply did not exist. In punishing Adam for disobedience, God said that he would return to the dust from where he came. That's exactly what happened. his physical form returned to the earth or dust, and his personality ceased to exist. This is backed up by many scriptures in other parts of the Bible.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 tells us that the dead are concious of nothing at ll.

Psalm 146:4 tells us that the dead go back to their ground and their thoughts come to an end.

John 11:11-14 indicates that death is like a sleep for those who have died, in other words, like Ecclesiastes 9:5, they are concious of nothing at all.

Ezekiel 18:4 tells us that the soul can die.

Isaiah 26:14 describes death as the opposite of life, that the dead are impotent, therefore unable to do anything

Ecclesiastes 9:6 shows us that the dead cannot cannot feel and have nothing anymore to do with the living.

However, this is not the end of it. The Biblke holds out the promise of a resurrection onto a paradise Earth, which is done at God's appointed time.

John 11 shows us how the Jews believed in the resurrection and that they would have to wait for the time for it to begin.

Revelation 21:4 shows us that death must be brought to an end. Anyone "held" by death must be released through the resurrection.

Psalm 37 shows us that all righteous ones will be be given posession of the Earth.

Luke 23:43 shows that the promise of life in a paradise is open to most people who have ever lived. The criminal executed with Jesus did not live a good life, but he fully and properly changed his heart just before he died. jesus could see that he was genuine and therefore made this promise to him.

People have been asking this question from the beginning of time. You will receive so many conflicting answers here. You will be just as confused after you read them.

The answer lies within yourself. You have to ask yourself the hardest questions in life, and you have to accept only the answers that have the solid ring of truth. Keep searching until that happens, even if it takes years and years. You are going to read the same old sappy answers from the same old sappy thinking, and that is why you are confused. How do you believe? They all seem to have some flaw, don't they? The truth is out there, I can assure you of that, but you will recognize it when you keep asking the questions until they are answered without contradiction, and consistently. Do not settle for some sentimental answer that requires you to stop thinking and just believe. Do not settle for some answer that requires you to believe what is fashionable, at the expense of your instincts.
You may have to reject many, many answers over time, and you may come to a place where you think you may have the truth. Do not stop there. If you think you have the truth, then scrutinize it again and again. You may have to reject it. No matter what, you will find the truth if you keep looking for it.

I alternate between two ideas:

1. that there is no life after death at all and that this was dreamt up by humans who traditionally can't accept that once you die you are absolutely no more - it's encouraging and safe to think that you sort of stick around for a bit and death isn't everything.

2. But then how would ghosts and spooky things be explained?

I like to think that your soul can be tapped into once you die (psychics and mediums are sometimes spookily accurate) but generally you are elsewhere and it is not actually "life".

I for one can't believe we were put on this world to live for say 70 years (a very short time in the scheme of things) and then...nothing.
Our bodies deteriorate and die, sure but our soul lives on.I have a great faith in God and Jesus and I have no doubt there is an afterlife...what it is and where it is...we'll have to wait to find out.
Atheists on the other hand have nothing...we should pity not ridicule them.
Martin S is a Jehova's Witness (think only THEY will be saved)..well known for twisting the words of the Bible to their own ends. This sect did n't exist until around the late 1800s..what about people who lived before then??

There is "spirituality" after death. It has nothing to do with the physical body. Using the term life after death is what's misleading. Death of the physical body is an end to life.

Yes!!!

Here's is how to get it!!!

Each morning upon rising, and each evening before sleeping, gives thanks for the life within you and for all life, for the good things the Creator has given you and for the opportunity to grow a little more each day. Consider your thoughts and actions of the past day and seek for the courage and strength to be a better person. Seek for the things that will benefit others (everyone).

2. Respect. Respect means "To feel or show honor or esteem for someone or something; to consider the well being of, or to treat someone or something with deference or courtesy". Showing respect is a basic law of life.

3. Once a council has decided something in unity, respect demands that no one speak secretly against what has been decided. If the council has made an error, that error will become apparent to everyone in its own time.

4. Be truthful at all times, and under all conditions.

5. Always treat your guests with honor and consideration. Give of your best food, your best blankets, the best part of your house, and your best service to your guests.

6. The hurt of one is the hurt of all; the honor of one is the honor of all.

7. Receive strangers and outsiders with a loving heart and as members of the human family.

8. All the races and tribes in the world are like the different colored flowers of one meadow. All are beautiful. As children of the Creator they must all be respected.

9. To serve others, to be of some use to family, community, nation, and the world is one of the main purposes for which human beings have been created. Do not fill yourself with your own affairs and forget you’re most important talks. True happiness comes only to those who dedicate their lives to the service of others.

10. Observe moderation and balance in all things.

11. Know those things that lead to your well-being and those things that lead to your destruction.

12. Listen to and follow the guidance given to your heart. Expect guidance to come in many forms; in prayer, in dreams, in times of quiet solitude, and in the words and deeds of wise Elders and friends.
