In shahtra the word is dvija which means any one is came from mother's oumb and always in search of new things from mother about universe and learn lots of things and a billions of doubts and after attaining certain age he needs a solution to all world things. and in such practice he wants to join as sanyasi with blessings of a guru or saint he performs some yagna and thus he leaves his old name and fame this is called a second birth his new life is to serve for universal under the instructions of god

Once a man takes normal birth in this world as usual like others. But only the male Brahmins are required to undergo Janeu ceremoney at the age of childhood or just before becoming a youth, this ceremoney is being called second birth as per meanings of Hindu shastras.
