I am a female, about to enter college to study aeronautical science and become a professional pilot. the only thing i can see wrong with my future plans is that i eventually (in my early 20's) would like to get married and start a family. i dont want to be a horrible parent that knows nothing about their kids and is always gone, but i would really like to have a career as a pilot for an airline. is it possibl to have both or am i wanting too much?

You can be both, but it will take a lot on your part. I have seen many women be pilots and moms too and they learn to balance their time between work and family. Once you get into an airline you should have a pretty set schedule, so you will know when you will be away from hom.

Good luck!

My father is a pilot he has been a pilot for 30years or longer he and my mom have been married for 39 years, they have four kids. ages 38,36,24,and 16. They love each other so much and everyone in the family gets along. But my father is a pilot for a private person. He flys whenever his boss needs or wants to go somewhere. So he can raise his family and still continue his passion for flying!

It might be little hard during your first times but everyone can get used to it. You might have to sacrifise a bit in the start but it will pay off at the end. I have seen many female pilots who fly and also take care of their families. So good luck and be a good mother and wife and a safe pilot.

Lots of lady pilots out there and they seem to manage family and career. I've personally known some lady airline captains, and they were quite satisfied with the balance. One of them worked domestic runs for Continental and her husband worked the European runs for the same company. Worked out well.

having a family my be tough, but the market is good for lady pilots as airlines are looking for a ballance in gender... the only potential problem is that early on, you can plan on being away from home about half the time...
