You seem to be forgetting something.

While any country may have the right to develop nuclear weapons.

Thr rest of the world, also enjoys the right to stop trading with them, prevent their citizens from entering their countries and to isolate the nuclear developing country in anyway they want to.

It's up to the country trying to develop nuclear weapons, to decide if they would rather have normal relations with the rest of the world, or continue to develop nuclear weapons.

Its the old adage 'one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter'

Of course it would preferable that countries which hold nuclear weapons should be stable, democratic and have transparent accountability. If you go to the Middle east there would be many who would question whether 'western' countries would meet this criteria.

Those countries that have nuclear weapons enjoys the advantage it gives them, and do not want others to have the same advantage.

Another thing to consider is that enriching Nuclear material to weapons grade Uranium or Plutonium is an incredibly expensive process. When the U.S. enriched Uranium for the Manhattan project they where drawing one fifth of all the power consumed in the country. Should countries put so much resources into obtaining a nuclear weapon when they have people starving for lack of food?

as far as i`m concerned no country should have the right to have them, and the ones who have should get rid of them if they care less about the future of the world .
Given the facts if there has to be nuclear weapons i would feel a lot easier with Iran having them rather than the US and Isreal who are the greater threat to world peace , considering their aggression and invasions of weaker countries .Whereas in contrast Iran has never attacked another nation .

American foriegn policy makes certain countries (understanably)feel they need nuclear weapons to defend themselves from the bully tactics of the US and Isreal .they only have to look at whats happening over their border in Iraq to justify wanting them
also there is no proof that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons the inteligence given to the UN by the US has all been found after investigation by the UN either to be unfounded or with out any evidence that its true .Whats happening now is a repeat of the lead up to invading Iraq and needs to be stopped .before it goes any further .

A country has a right to defend itself, particularly if, like its neighbour, it has been denounced as part of "the axis of evil". Its neighbour has been illegally invaded and, like its neighbour, it has rich natural reserves, which are likely to be seized as part of "reparations". In this case it is quite understandable if this country were to develop a nuclear bomb. However this is a totally hypothetical discussion since Iran are not trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iraq was invaded because it supposedly had weapons of mass destruction. The US is now just looking for an excuse to invade Iran.

A very good question - every country decides what its own people & govt has the right to do - that's it - when countries like the US go telling others what they must do, it gets more complicated. Then you have two competing sets of values.

If the US & pals threatens the others viciously enough, they will probably prevail. But doing so encourages more countries to seek nukes, as being countries with plenty of long-range atomic weapons ends up being the only way to ensure that they do not get invaded & overthrown.

Nope not every country should have the right to develop a nuclear bomb. We have too many countries in the world that are unstable politically, socially, or economically. These ticking time bombs are the least fit candidates for these types of weapons. Many 2bit dictators will sell their bomb(s) to Al Qaeda or the highest bidder, or if a coup happens, the new leader in charge could use them to turn his opponents into ashes.

Isreal, the US, France, & other similar nations have systems in place to prevent any of their weapons from being detonated without provocation. It would be a national scandal if one of our nuclear weapons would be smuggled out of the country.

I wouldn't worry about Isreal's weapons program. They will take care of themselves. Iran's President has threatened to take Isreal out on camera. Where's the outrage in that? If Isreal is taken out by a nuclear weapon, who will be next? NYC, London, Chicago, LA, etc.

It's called the nuclear non-proliferation treaty which means that every country that has signed the treaty cannot develop nuclear weapons. India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel are not on the treaty, therefore can have nuclear weapons if they so choose. Also as a condition of the treaty, we must disarm our arsenal over time. So before you think you've made some sort of progressive statement of realization, get the facts straight.

Any country that declares openly that they wish the annihilation of another country, obviously should not be allowed to have a nuclear bomb! Till now, we have only heard Iran spew this evil.

The threat to destroy another country puts a different look on it. Iran still uses threats to other countries. Why would the world take a chance on a country that broadcasts hatred towards other countries and think that letting them have a weapon as dangerous as a nuclear weapon okay to have ?

What makes the west "holier than though" is the fact that they have all the nukes. Who is to stop them from making the rules? It's like cops in movies -- if cop has his gun drawn, the other guy is better off listening when he says "drop your weapon and put your hands in the air."
