you're an agnostic. a person who questions the existence of god. there's another name for people like you. a free thinker. you obviously don't need other people to tell you what to believe.

What are you? Rational.

Jared Diamond, in "Guns, Germs, and Steel," points out that the primary reason for religion is to allow people in power to oppress the poor and wage war, with the promise of glory and etermal peace in the "after life." I tend to agree with him.

You might also take some comfort from the anthropic principle - questioning why the universe works the way it does is kind of a waste of time, because if it didn't work this way we wouldn't be here to ask the question.

I am a secular humanist. I also believe that our purpose on this Earth is to make it a better place for those who follow.

You make your heaven or hell on Earth. I sure hope there's a soul, and that there's an afterlife, but just in case there isn't I'm going to do my best with the time I've got.

Dance. Laugh. Hug. Create. Befriend. Inspire. Comfort. Rejoice. Love. The rest is all... well, unimportant.

i became dissillusioned with my church. but i still believe. although my faith was almost diminished to zero, i still cried like a baby saying ABBA.
Please believe me, Dont give up, there is a God in heaven, and there is an afterlife. I have had out of body experiences, and seeming near death experiences too. but I beheld and angel appear in my bedroom and i beheld the Glory of the sun of righteousness, where I saw a Vision of Jesus. in another vision I opened my eyes and saw jesus before me, and a voice declared i was in the presence of Jesus.
Fantacy stories are fun. who doesnt like them! I liked piers anthony and his adept series i like thomas covenant series and the edgar rice burrough books. but about your being a secular humanist. i think the bible says the "natural" man cannot see God.
for me it takes reading the scriptures and I think i believe. it does not mean you are secular, if you have doubts about religion but everyone has doubts as i have said already, i became disilluisoned but I still believe. the fact that you have a temporary hurdle to overcome doesnt mean you are athiest, but if you let it control your path, it will be the destination you choose.
I hope my words suggest you try to believe in the other way to choose it.
the way a person gets answers to prayer is to be sincere but seek out answers and study the scriptures. the more you excercise the desire the greater the proof becomes. Even the faith you have you will see was always there, but not at the present time. Some day you will say you had faith.
now today I say I KNOW that there is a God and an afterlife.

Im a born again Christian, but I can tell you out of my faith that you can real all of the holy books and nothing will come close to the Bible. The Bible has the most accurate information on life, spirituality, and science. There is even one verse that references the Earth as a round circular object. It might sound stupid now, but when everyone back then thought the Earth was flat, why in the world would the Bible say that it is round? (Perhaps the Bible is real) Read them all, study them all, and figure out which one has the most substance and standing in your mind. Im confindent youll make the right choice. Good Luck!

You are going through what any normal inquisitive mind goes through. You should check out the movie" What the bleep do we know?" It will explain a little of what you are feeling. I'm right there with you. My best advice is not to sweat it. Things fall into place in there due time. Just enjoy life. The animals of the earth don't worry about a soul. So.. why should we?

You may not care, but God is there, I have felt His presence. He can only give the peace and love we need, till the time He gives, we keep feeling unsure.
I assure you, we dont know about ourselves and nobody will remember us after we die, so seek God, its worthy.
Jesus was sent from God and all things He said came true. It may not be evident the sooner we expect, but ask and wait for God, I am very very sure that He is there. I feel Him every day, every time I pray. His love is so true. I can spend all my time to tell that, cause I need everyone to know the wonder that I have got

yeah you sound pretty close to agnostic. You aren't sure whether God exists or whether it even matters but you do have beliefs. Even so I think you should look into other religions, maybe as a hobby like I did. I'm not 100% convinced with any of them but I found ideas I could accept and understand in each of them. Don't pin yourself to a religion you don't agree with but use them as recources to figuring out what you're comfortable with.

I, for one, am unclear some lot, theologically or in any diverse case. I frame of mind my faith with particularly some doubt, by using truth doubt has continually been cutting-edge-day. as well, as you're implying, an conceited, narrow-minded idea kit would make you journey good and tutor you ways to sleep correct, yet is all of it a fantasy? And what harm does this do to the international, to have thousands and thousands operating round wondering they have a monopoly on truth? With plenty doubt, why do I notwithstanding pass to church? Pray? by using truth what's "appropriate" to me is to grant as a lot as truth. As a Christian, truth to me is a loving God who, like a being concerned Father, demands that I grant my all and follow His guidelines, and on the similar time loves me very plenty. Being a Christian facilitates me to be an stronger forgiving, compassionate, grateful individual. (i am going to't provide help to comprehend the way in many circumstances I enter prayer with a frown, and end my prayers with a grin). Is my way the in effortless words way? No. it truly is a route that makes me an stronger individual. For others, their route is hooked as a lot as Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, etc. it isn't acceptable what route you're on, as lengthy it truly is one which comprise springing up an stronger compassionate, humble coronary heart. each and each and all the appropriate..

You sound like me about 20 years ago.

These are the questions I needed to ask myself:
1) Do I want there to be a God?
2) Do I want to know him?
3) How bad do things have to be before I trust him?

If you have any difficulty with any of those questions, I offer myself as a sounding board.

E-mail me and I'll tell you were to meet me.
