Normalizing allows us to easily compare data across many samples and draw conclusions.

Example, IQ tests:
If you test a large number of people, and make calculations, you can find "average" and set it to an IQ of 100. Then you can test any individual and see not how many answers he got right but how his intelligence compares to the rest of the population.
