We have these cheap pots and pans that are non stick. They came as a 4 piece set. 3 out of the 4 have caused the ''coloring'' to come off quite quickly actually we haven't had these pots all that long they have made the bottoms of the pots rusty and outside the coloring is coming off. My question is what the headline reads and also am i just being ''paranoid'' or is this a problem? I think they should be tossed out and buy better ones i don't like the thought of risking my family's health over the life span of a pot or pan. (Been thought of as paranoid for this.) I appreciate your opinions and suggestions. Also, we had stainless steel pots and pans but they damaged too quickly and i thought non stick was the better option but now im finding out otherwise or maybe non stick is the better option but they were cheap pots and pans so maybe it's getting what you pay for?

Teflon pans require that you use moderate heat so that the coating doesn't get damaged or separate from the metal that the pan is made from. When using a Teflon-coated pan, never use heat that is above medium to medium-high. You DO get what you pay for when buying cookware. My suggestion is to spend a little more money and buy high quality stainless steel or commercial (restaurant quality) cookware that will last for a long time. The safety of Teflon is debateable. I don't use coated pans any longer, but if you really want non-stick pans try out Calphalon --and keep the heat down when cooking. Another option is Circulon products. This company makes some great pans with a ribbed, non-stick surface.

It appears that what is harmful is the type of glue which has been used to apply the Teflon sheet on pots. That's what is causing major concerns. However, pots which are in conditions such as what you've described should really be replaced asap. But you need to invest more money in it. I don't know where you're based, but pls be aware that Amazon was recently having sales on very good quality pots and pans - it may be worth having a look on their website. In my opinion, you should only have one or two frying pans which are non stick, but pick the ones which come with at least 5 year-guarantee. the pots should really be good quality stainless steel.

Yes, the teflon pot and pans are harmful and not healthly for your family. Toss them out ASAP and buy a new set of pots and pans. We like Calapahon, they are wonderful to cook with and the taste of your food is better, they are a little pricey, but you can order them online and find great deals. I would not cook without the Calapahon pots and pans they are better then the pots and pans the cooking showes use, simply womderful! Best Wishes and Happy Cooking!
