How often should I or can I open the box to check on my baby cockatiels? They are 3 weeks old now. So far I've done it a few times everyday. Can I also take them out everytime or is it ok to do it once a day as I've done so far.

If you want them to be really sweet and tame, you can start hand feeding them with a syringe now, if you feel confident and have that kind of time. If the parents are going to be the ones weaning them, just make sure you aren't interfering with feeding times or stressing the parents out. Let them guide you. They'll let you know if you are disturbing the babies too much. Make sure you are cleaning out the breeder box every day or at least every other day. Watch for signs of abuse by the father (missing pins or feathers, etc). Pull them immediately when this starts, as it can quickly escalate out of control. He just wants to breed again.

As long as the parents are tolerating you checking on the chicks, then you can keep doing so as often as you have been. Don't handle them too often though. They will be plenty tame if you start handling them more regularly once they are coming out of the box themselves.

It is better to leave the babies and parents alone. Let them be parents. Just keep the parents fed and clean the cage daily. Leave the nest or breeding box alone. You do not even have to clean it. The parents can do it. Also, when you let the parents be parents to their babies, the babies will be good parents to their own babies when the time comes for them to be parents.

you could not hurry the breeding. mom nature will dictate whilst the time is suitable. I certainly have a mated pair with a nest container yet they insist on laying eggs on the floor of the cage.
