First of all, don't freak out yet. It's hard, almost impossible to actually overdose on Xanax alone, since it's not a toxic drug. You can expect him to fully recover.
The real problem is not the overdose attempt, but what caused him to try and do it. Is he suicidal? First thing, you need to get ahold of all his other meds (even OTC ones) so he doesn't try it again with something more dangerous and actually succeed. And you'll seriously need to bring him to the emergency room immediately so he wont kill himself if this was a suicide attempt.
If he's not suicidal and it was just an accident that he took too much, this proves he's not responsible enough to be taking Xanax and probably shouldn't have it.

It shouldn't matter if he wants to go to the hospital or not. The sooner that stuff is out of his system, the better it will be for him.
I recommend that you call 9-1-1 without him knowing it. Just here the knock on the door when they get there and let them handle the situation. Don't bother trying to take him to the hospital yourself--he won't be able to get up probably. The signs of overdose are sleepiness, acting drunk, slurring words. He is in the red zone right now.

Most people take xanax as a drug and misuse it, that's typical. But ofcourse not good. Look up the over dose precautions of xanax and see what it says. Do you know how much he took? I have xanax but I don't know wjere my prescriptions sheet is. Over dose symptoms are those of a drunk. Sleepiness, dizziness slow heart beat, irregular breathing. Just watch him closely. Are you sure that he over dosed? Good luck and get him help so that it doesn't happen again!

dude, call an ambulance! even if he is still responsive, you want to get it out of his system as soon as possible, especially if you think he's overdosed! xanax takes a long time to get out of your system, and even when it's out you still feel very very groggy!
you have to force him to the hospital if he won't go - how do you know it's not suicide?
