You are in pain because the physical activity builds up certain substances in the muscle tissue. Make sure you drink enough water, at the least, with no exercise, 64 ounces a day. If you move, drink more. Listen to your body, it will tell you if you need water, thirst is a sign of dehydration. Drink water first- soda, juice, milk, coffee, whatever else, after. Having proper hydration helps your body flush out the buildup, and can help relieve and reduce cramping and pain.

If your body is not in a routine of daily exercise.. even if it is to some extent... it sounds as if you have a build up of lactic acid (naturally occurring and normal) in your muscle tissue. When building muscle, you are actually creating micro-tears in the fibers that at repaired with new muscle tissue, this in theory gives you muscle definition and mass. Also why so many people who train seriously take protein supplements to aid in recovery and building of muscle tissues. Hope this makes sense and helps.
Try switching up and doing pull ups also to work different muscles.

The pain is probably caused by small tears in your muscle fiber, a way your body tells you to take things easy at first. Click on the link below for information on exercise pain.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. It also sometimes is due to disuse atrophy. Try out some home remedies. You can also look for information in the web that give you home remedies. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html

it is muscle cramps .. this happens because of lactic acid accumulation in ur muscles... continue doing ur work outs and it will slowly vanish in a few days.
this will happen if you don't do the pushups regularly ... even a break of 10 days from working out, will cause cramps after ur first workout after the break.
