Where i live is a trashy Neighborhood (we would leave, but we were hear years before them with ACRAGE!)
And no one has fences except me! and when ever i walk my dobe, a mean dog will come up to us and my dog tears a chuck out of him and the owners and me get into a fight bc their stupid unrestrained white trash dog comes up to ME ( i always win), and tries to attack me, and then my RESTARINED dobe with a choke chian, and LEASH, attacks it to protect me, and the dog gets tore up really bad, but its not like i go around to make my dog attack all these dogs bc im not. And im not going to stop walking my dog bc they cant control their dog, but what i wanted to know what what could i do to keep them away from us.
any ideas? becuase he is a sweet dobe, and hes only protecting me. when other nonviolent dogs come up to us like little ones, he plays with them, but since the ones close by to me are abused neglected, unsocialized& mean, and my Dog can tell when theres danger and reacts.

also, moving is not an option. We both love it here, bc i have woods and he loves them, and my familey also were here before THEM, and the cops and stuff try to do things for a short time, but they have murders and stuff to solve, and not some dogs who cant stay in their yard.
also people do get fined, but they dont care, the go make some drug money, and still leave their dog outside.

Unfortunately, everything you can legally do may not help solve your problem. Some of the things you can do are:

1. When you see a dog approaching, place yourself between your dog and the approaching dog and say in a loud voice, "NO! Get away!" If you can make yourself appear dominant or threatening, most dogs will choose to stop or run off. Stomping your feet, clapping your hands, may all help to appear "scary" to the dog.

2. In the case a dog keeps coming after that, you should have pepper spray ready. Pet stores, gun shops, and police suppliers often carry dog repellent sprays and a variety of pepper sprays. Have a competent store employee show you which type to choose and how to properly use it. When spraying an attacking dog, always spray directly for the dog's nose and mouth.

That said, you also need to make sure that your dog is 100% under control when you're being approached by other dogs, whether they are friendly or unfriendly. If your dog is lunging at the other dog, then you are NOT in control.

In a dog pack, it's the leader's position to defend the pack, not the pack's position to defend the leader. So when a strange dog is approaching, you need to be able to tell it to back off while keeping your pack (your dog) in check. Not the other way around.

Your Doberman is probably just what you wrote...nice. That is why they come up to him.

It's going to make him mean, though, as long as dogs keep running up to him in an aggressive manner.

I'd be protective too.

I would start turning in all the wandering dogs, who are off leashes, and get the people ticketed. Once they get a big fat five hundred dollar fine, they will stop!

Good luck, but till they stop letting their dogs roam, I'd consider going to another area to walk my doggy.

Good luck...I just love Dobes. Had them over 20 years.

Not much you can do carry a big stick to hit other dogs use pepper spray but it could get into your dogs eyes , Now as for dogs running loose It happens a lot in rural areas If thats the case carry a starter pistol and fire it at the dogs who apporach .NOTICE I stated a STARTER pistol . and go from there as for neighbors you can sue a owner for not restraining there dog if it attacks you and your dog take to vet even if your dog isnt hurt and send bill to owner saying that you had to make sure your dog wasnt hurt then sue if its isnt paid .I bet a couple of hundred dollar vet bills and they put up a dog run or a fence

I don't really think there's anything you can do to keep unrestrained dogs away from you on your walks.
I suggest you move out of this neighborhood! You and your dog sound like really nice people that don't deserve crap like that. There's so many nice neighborhoods with FENCES! :P
I definately don't think you should stop walking him though, he shouldn't have to suffer from other owners mistakes. If you can't talk to the owners and explain to them about their dogs and how they should have them restrained or something, then maybe you could call some sort of animal people? There's got to be a law against mean dogs without restraints.
