82% of Americans over 30 have kids.....yet only 27% of those over 25 have a college degree!!! If you can afford a child (180K) how can you not afford a college degree (30-50K)? Lord knows the latter is more useful in highly competitive American society!!!!

because from what I have seen the majority of american kids breed all over the place and have a distinct lack of education, sex or otherwise.... your country should be ashamed of itself for allowing your youth to become so ignorant

Not sure where you are getting the 180k, unless you are speaking of a lifetime, of which then you would have to multiply an earning by that amount too. A degree doesn't secure a high salary, ask any liberal arts major that one. I have my masters and have never used it for my career, unless of course you factor in that my education is responsible for my standing within my work. I am an editor of a paper and still own my family's farm. In a small town, an editor only makes 65k. The farm, 160 acres, means we don't have to buy much in the way of food, we raise cattle and grow corn, peas and hay, but still that doesn't equate to another 115K. (Unless you figure that I have 160 acre retirement plan)
Your comment goes to a valid question, but not for the reasons you suggest. How can a person do without an education in a life where understanding is so important in the grand scheme of things. Lord knows, had I opted to remain a farmer, what kind of educator would I have been for my five sons? Many people feel a need to have children for a variety of reasons, some selfish, some inate, some might need help on a farm. I agree many have children that shouldn't (for the sake of the children they shouldn't) but it is a right given to our bodies and in a free society, we can't dictate or mandate who can or cannot have children. Remember, everything is relative. Those with masters might say, how can anyone with a four year degree think about having children, while those with PHDs might be saying likewise about those with masters.

There is a reason why people with college degrees make more money and that is because the college degree is a differentiator and an indicator that these people can follow through on a tough committement.

I think that the numbers you have quoted leave a lot of room for some interpretation. How many of those people have multiple kids? If 1 kid is 180k to raise then 3 or 4 kids are going to be a lot more expensive. I wonder, on average, how old these people in this group were when they started having kids? If they had the kid before they were able to start college or got around to starting college, then their entire focus has been on providing for their children...not necessarily on better themselves.

Alot of Americans don't make 30-50K. Unemployment is at an all time high. My son has a 4yr degree and had to go back to school because his field (Computer Aided Design/Drafting Engineer) has been outsourced. If he does find a job in the States, starting salary is a lousy $10hr. These days I have found degree or no degree, it's who you know and not what you know. Perfect example. Where I work, they just hired 8 out of 150 applicants. All relatives of workers who complain and won't do their work. Where is the fairness in that.

Are you saying a degree is more useful in society than children? Where the hell do you think you came from? So should it be a law to have a degree before you have children? I don't know where you live, but where I'm from it costs $ to go to college, and some parents are not willing to help their children get an education. And lets face it, how the hell do you provide yourself room/board/bills/vehicle/college expenses while working for minimum wage your teenage years? I actually tried it, but it didn't work for me. So unless someone helps you out along the way, it is near impossible to do all those things on your own. Not everyone is born a rich, uptight, prick whose mommy and daddy pay their way through everything! And furthermore, I am 34yrs. old now, and I didn't complete my college degree. I do stay at home with my 4 children (2 of which I took in from an abusive home). And my focus is not getting a degree.....It's raising those 4 kids to be decent adults one day!!!! Too bad that wasn't the focus your parents had!
Oh, btw (that's by the way, incase you don't know) I am able to be home with my kids because my husband makes excellent money and guess what!!???? He DIDN'T go to college at all!!!

Thus, is because to many americans have children when there teens and they claim to not have the time so this is why. Most of the time its not money or when it is its because they do not realize that children coast more

I agree, I really don't know why people don't think ahead.

That nerd who said something about a framed certificate probably works at McDonalds. People who don't have one usually have little recourse other than to put down the benefits of an institution of higher learning.

A lot of people are competent and do not rely on social props such as framed certificates to survive.
