All art comes from within your heart and soul. If your dance comes from within, then it is art. A sport would be something that people compete in. If you dance and compete, then it becomes a sport.

The trend to change the label on every human activity from whatever it is currenty called to a sport, and then to an Olympic sport seems pretty ludicrous to me. Why don't you just see it terms of what the requirements are? People who dance are artists with athletic ability.
I mean if it's a funding thing or a political thing in school where you have to choose a sport and you want to choose dance, then okay. Otherwise, it's a psychological trick about prestige, ego and acceptance. Idk, it's not that farfetched if it feels right to you to call it a sport, but I draw the line at chess.

Art
Dance (from Old French dancier, perhaps from Frankish) generally refers to movement used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance setting.
Morris dancing in the grounds of Wells Cathedral, Wells, EnglandDance is also used to describe methods of non-verbal communication (see body language) between humans or animals (bee dance, patterns of behaviour such as a mating dance), motion in inanimate objects (the leaves danced in the wind), and certain musical forms or genres.
Definitions of what constitutes dance are dependent on social, cultural, aesthetic, artistic and moral constraints and range from functional movement (such as Folk dance) to virtuoso techniques such as ballet. In sports, gymnastics, figure skating and synchronized swimming are dance disciplines while Martial arts 'kata' are often compared to dances.
Dance can be directly participatory, social or performed for an audience. It can also be ceremonial, competitive or erotic. Dance movements may be without significance in themselves, such as in ballet or European folk dance, or have a gestural vocabulary/symbolic system as in many Asian dances. Dance can embody or express ideas, emotions or tell a story.
Choreography is the art of creating dances, and the person who does this is called a choreographer.

For me it's an art. Although there's at least one "competitive dancing" TV programme here in the UK. Hmm, good question!
