Since most people seem to have an aversion to long - term relationships these days, doesn't it stand to reason that of those who live long lives will end up dying alone in some old folks home someday? Afterall, there's a good chance that there'll be no husband / wife or maybe even sons / daughters at their sides when they take that final breath. I guess people just don't think about the future consequences of their ways, do they?

People are not willing to work on their marriages and it is already causing the situation you fear WILL happen.

Sadly, I also agree with you. Back in the late 70s when myself and at least four of my so called friends all became pregnant, out of the five only two of us had our babies, the other three had abortions. Of the three, they all later whet on to have at least three more abortions, two became barren and the third had to have a child late in her 20s who was severely handicapped and she developed so many female problems until she had had a total hysterectomy by 33. One is now in a mental institution and the other two have been diagnosed as severely bipolar. So now here we are 30 years later, I have a 30 year old daughter who I love with all my heart and while I don't expect her or her two sister to take care of me, I don't worry to much about being put in a nursing home, because I have not done that to my 84 year old mother with Alzheimer's and I never forsake my parents, while the friends I spoke about did many selfish things, in my opinion, when it came to their aging parents. I do believe that the future, in one way or another, will show you your past. If at all possible, I do believe that my daughters will be at my bedside, when I take my final breath, as it should be. God Bless.

Sadly I think that might be the case. The people who are getting to live so long are living painfully more often than not. Most people have unhealthy habits too, so the mortality rate has increased. People also live more isolated lives in the modern world. I think the state should arrange for care clubs for the elderly. The pay would be more for the caretakers, and not full-time, and the care would be better, and in-home.Things could be a lot less depressing. You should visit Patch Adam's web page(gesundheit means health in German), and also research the idea of care clubs(people taking a period of 2 weeks to 2 months(or longer) taking turns, for very decent pay as live-in caregivers who engage with the elderly more as people than "invalids") Patch Adams' significant other Susan Parenti has that system using the money that would go to nursing homes to take care of her mother, former artist who has Alzheimer's.

Yes it does seemt hat way long time ago the younger generation would take care of the older ones but now it seems this time and age you are thrown away and put in homes and of coarse the older ones some of them become mean. there are som that don't but majority of them are mean. like my adopted mom she hates me and loves one of the inlaws yep it sure is unreal. i know there is nothign i can do and therefore its hard for me to keep her and not put her in home i mean i am tempted and if she keeps being mean to me i probably will but its not right if we all helped our elders there would be no need for homes like before.
